Spectre Divide has set out to revolutionize the shooter genre. Now the shooter has a release date – and it’s the beginning of September
Colorful team shooters with a comic book look are not in short supply at the moment. After the release of Overwatch in May 2016, the industry seems to have caught on to a trend and delivered a lot of supplies with Valorant, Paladins and, most recently, Concord, which was reviled by gamers.
And now, of all things, the next genre representative is just around the corner withSpectre DivideThe developers from the young studio Mountaintop seem to be sure of themselves. On theSteam pagefor Spectre Divide, they write that their game is “a groundbreaking step in the tactical shooter genre”. The shooter will also be free to play

Editor’s verdict
Even if it only looks like a Valorant clone or Counter-Strike with extra mechanics at first glance: Spectre Divide raises the standard of competitive tactical shooters to a whole new level. While Riot Games’ hero shooting game was already a more complex CS:GO, Spectre Divide goes one better.
In addition to fast reactions, precision and map knowledge, the mastery of equipment and special abilities also count, just like in Valorant. Depending on the team sponsor, this means not only flashbangs or smoke grenades, but also surveillance drones, scanning spears, shield generators or mines. And then there is the core mechanic with the double character. This not only doubles the player’s lives, it can also be placed more or less freely by throwing a puck.
Thanks to the quick change of perspective on the winding maps of Spectre Divide, unexpected possibilities open up in many places that you could hardly have imagined on de_Dust. However, the initial barrier to entry is correspondingly high, as you won’t get very far here if you only have a good grasp of shooters. Not least because the guns are only sold in fixed tandems, making the mid-round economy even trickier.
For Valorant enthusiasts, the skill scale should therefore be open at the top. Patience at the start is rewarded with a comparatively bold game design that challenges its players but also rewards them with exciting solutions.
Technically and mechanically, Spectre Divide is certainly on a par with its role models. Now it depends on whether the target group really has a lasting desire for even more possibilities in tactical shooter combat.
Now it’s your turn: What are your impressions of Spectre Divide so far? Do you want to try out the new Valorant and Counter-Strike competitor or do you say ‘not another comic shooter’? As always, let us know in the comments below:
