The Nintendo Switch 2 is once again associated with an Nvidia feature: The upcoming console is said to rely on DLSS to close the gap to the PS5 and XSX

In recent months, there has been a lot of speculation about the release, price and technical components of the Nintendo Switch 2

As things stand today, everything points to a release of the console in 2025; while the graphics unit is expected to be an Nvidia Tegra T239 with 1,536 shader units.

The latter has now been brought back into play and is expected to bring with it a feature that we have already known from the PC for several years: We’re talking about DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling).

The most important facts in brief

  • Nintendo Switch 2 performance should be on par with the Xbox Series S and surpass the Steam Deck
  • Gap to Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X to be closed with Nvidia DLSS
  • KI upscaling of the Switch 2 is based on an Ampere chip

The rumor was picked up by YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead (MLID), who once again confirmed the ARM chip with Ampere unit in his podcast. This is to be manufactured by Samsung using the 8 nm process

According to the YouTuber, a chip from the (still) current Ada-Lovelace generation was also under discussion, but Nintendo opted for the predecessor as it is more cost-efficient.

At least the manufacturer has added individual Ada improvements to the Ampere chip, such as greater energy efficiency.

While Nvidia’s Ampere architecture is now three years old, the Switch 2 is said to perform better than the Steam Deck in handheld mode using the chip. In dock mode, the Nintendo console should at least come close to the Xbox Series S.

The gap to the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, on the other hand, is to be closed with the aforementioned Nvidia DLSS.

According to MLID, almost all games currently in development for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to use AI upscaling.

Whether the AI-specific tensor cores of the Ampere chips for the desktop are used for this or Nintendo has come up with its own specialized version for upscaling is unclear.

Is DLSS compatibility a reason for you to buy the Nintendo Switch 2? Which games would you like to see running on your screen in the highest possible resolution when the console launches? Let us know in the comments below
