The new game from Hazelight is a huge success for the studio. Three new records were set within a week.

No fiction, but reality: Split Fiction has earned the developer studio Hazelight no fewer than three official records. Official in this case means that the new records have been recognized by the well-known organization The Guinness World Records.

One record is not enough

A Way Out, It Takes Two, Split Fiction – what are the Hazelight titles known for? That’s right: phenomenally good couch co-op. Sitting together in the same room, munching on snacks and having a great time.

In this very discipline, Split Fiction has now triumphed three times, more specifically:

  • the most-played local co-op video game on Steam
  • the best-selling local co-op video game within 48 hours of release
  • the best-selling local co-op video game within one week of release

What about the ducks?

A fair question: Why ignore the 702,845 ducks?

No, we didn’t sniff the glue too often (well, maybe we did). We are talking about , the . By comparison, Split Fiction only comes

The two editions of also come up with higher SteamDB numbers with 488,791 and 463,928 players respectively.

That’s not to say that Split Fiction doesn’t in fact hold the three records above. But Guinness World Records apparently used a different counting method than the well-known Steam database.

The other two records, however, are not in question With over a million copies sold in the 48 hours following its release and a whopping two million units sold in the first week, there is no doubt that Split Fiction was a huge success for Hazelight.

By comparison, A Way Out took almost a year and a half to break the two million barrier. It Takes Two was much more successful, cracking the milestone in about a month. Still, that’s no comparison to the breakneck pace of Split Fiction.
