The haunting of one of the most controversial games of the last year has finally come to an end. Yesterday evening, the servers of The Day Before officially went offline. What remains are dead social media accounts, an empty website and mistrust in the Steam community.

The Day Before is probably clear proof that hype can be a real blender. When the title was first announced three years ago, the entire gaming community was carried away by the graphics and visuals on display

No wonder. After all, it wasn’t just the game world that made an atmospheric impression, which seemed more than interesting, especially due to the advertised open world factor. The gameplay consisting of PvP and PvE elements was also exciting and promised a special gaming experience

However, the mood gradually began to change when The Day Before was postponed several times. The alleged legal dispute with a calendar app also made the community suspicious. The first scam allegations were already made last year.
Nevertheless, many fans held on to the potential and believed in the promises made by developer Fntastic.

The Day Before: 45 Days After

The Day Before finally launched in December last year – and turned out to be a real flop. Instead of an open world survival MMO, it was just another extraction shooter. To cover its own tracks, Fntastic started deleting videos mentioning open world gameplay.

However, the reviews from the trade press and waves of criticism from fans did not stop. Many demanded their money back on Steam.

Developer Fntastic then announced its closure. Publisher Mytona and Steam had to take care of the corresponding refunds and The Day Before could no longer be purchased.
With yesterday’s server shutdown, the inactive Twitter accounts of Fntastic and the game itself remain behind. The developer’s official website merely announces its closure.

We can only hope that we have learned something from The Day Before. Just because something looks good doesn’t mean it is good. Unfortunately, when things are too good to be true, it’s often because they’re not.

The story of the game was summarized by Buffed in a half-hour video
