From Jedi: Fallen Order 2 to Ubisoft’s open-world game. We collect all Star Wars games that are currently being worked on – officially and unofficially.
A Shakeup in the Force: Not only did a legendary label recently return with Lucasfilm Games, but at the same time Disney ended its Star Wars exclusive deal with Electronic Arts and announced a new open-world game from Ubisoft. And if that wasn’t enough, a remake of KOTOR is also on the way.
So it’s high time we spruced up the list of upcoming War of the Stars games. Because after the release of Squadrons, Jedi: Fallen Order and Battlefront 2, it’s not just new Star Wars games from EA that await us: according to Lucasfilm Games, the gates are now being opened for every conceivable developer.
In the following article we present all Star Wars games that are currently in development and will be released in the near future: We collect official info, but also unconfirmed rumours and alleged leaks to give you an overview.
Already confirmed Star Wars games
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
When War of the Stars fans will be able to experience all the main parts of the Skywalker saga in one piece – in video game form, of course – was unknown for a long time. At the beginning of April 2021, the title from the developers TT Games was postponed indefinitely. In the meantime, it has become clear that the game will be released in spring 2022.
The latest title from the Lego games company begins with Episode 1 – The Dark Menace, extends through Episode 4 – A New Hope and concludes with Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker. However, we will have to do without the two cinema spin-offs Rogue One and Solo: A Star Wars Story that have been released so far – as well as the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch and is said to give players the chance to take on the roles of up to 500 different characters.
The developers Craig Derrick and Jonathan Smith revealed this in person. So the chances of being able to play even the secret stars of … Star Wars: Who hasn’t always wanted to play the role of Sy Snoodles or Coleman Trebor, blowing up Death Stars and toppling Galactic Empires?
Nobody? All right, we were just asking …
Ubisoft’s open-world game from the Division makers
The Star Wars licence no longer lies solely with Electronic Arts. Disney and Lucasfilm Games announced this on 13 January 2021. The first step will now be an open-world game by publisher Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment (Far Cry 3, The Division 1 & 2).
However, there is currently no information on the official title of the project or when the release is planned. While Julian Gerighty (The Crew, The Division 2) is the director of the project, it has at least been confirmed that Massive Entertainment’s Snowdrop engine will be used.
All information on Lucasfilm Games, the Indiana Jones game announced in the same breath and the end of the Star Wars exclusive deal with EA can be found in our articles on the respective topics. As soon as there is new information about the open-world project from Ubisoft, we will of course let you know.

Remake of Knights of the Old Republic
Rumours surrounding a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic have been many in recent years. There was even speculation about a sequel. Now it is clear: A remake of Kotor is indeed in the works.
This was officially confirmed with a first teaser trailer at Sony’s big PS5 showcase event. There’s not much to see yet, but you can already catch a glimpse of the familiar mask of Darth Revan:
There is not much information about the remake at the moment, because the development is still in its infancy. The term remake is taken literally, however, because Knights of the Old Republic is being redeveloped from scratch. However, it is not yet possible to say how far the changes will go, as there were no statements on this at the time of the announcement.
The studio responsible for this is Aspyr, which in the past has taken on ports of classic Star Wars games such as Republic Commando or Jedi Knight 2. With the remake of KOTOR, the team is now venturing into a much bigger task.
Star Wars games still unconfirmed
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2
The sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order is almost considered a set. Developer Respawn was already looking for a senior software engineer for a new Star Wars project via a job advertisement in December. There is talk of a third-person action adventure, which fits another spin-off in the style of Fallen Order.
Respawn also stated that they would like to continue the story of Jedi Cal Kestis and his droid companion BD-1. Fallen Order was also EA’s most successful Star Wars launch to date, so the publisher should not be averse to sending a second part into the (pod) race. Many critics were also convinced – including us, we gave the single-player adventure game a rating of 88 percent.
Last but not least, well-known journalist and industry insider Jason Schreier of Kotaku also confirmed the project, stating that the second part has “received the green light from EA”. Provided development has begun in December 2019, however, it will likely be at least another year or two before we can play a sequel, despite existing tools and assets.
So don’t expect a Fallen Order 2 before 2021 to 2022. Also, it’s unclear if the story of Cal Kestis will really be retold or if we might follow another hero.
Star Wars shooter from EA
Caution, this is an unconfirmed rumour whose credibility is hard to verify. We are including it in this article because the source has previously published information about the new KOTOR project (more on that below), which was subsequently confirmed by reliable insiders such as Bespin Bulletin and Jason Schreier.
On Reddit, OrcaOrcaisnotalone claims that a Star Wars shooter from EA will be released towards the end of 2021. This is said to have been in development for about two years, to be based on Unreal Engine 4 and to be a much smaller game than Jedi: Fallen Order.
EA is working on a small scale Star Wars Game that will release later this year. from GamingLeaksAndRumours
In the comments, some speculate that this project could be related to Battlefront 2, as some of the Voice Actors are working together again for an unknown project. Whether this is true, however, is still completely unclear. We probably won’t know more until later this year.
VR game for The High Republic
The following rumour should be taken with a grain of salt: The High Republic is the next, big Star Wars era that Disney wants to focus on. For the time being, however, only in the course of novels and comics, cinema films are currently not planned – but with The Acolyte a TV series for the streaming service Disney Plus.
But what about video games? Cinelinx (a source we’ll get to a second time later in this article) wants to know that fans can expect a virtual reality title set in this new era.
However, there is no concrete information on whether this alleged High Republic project even exists – or has even been cancelled. In January 2021, The High Republic has now been launched.
The Mandalorian
The Disney series The Mandalorian has quickly proven to be a huge success and will be expanded with more seasons in the future. It is possible that the titular Mandalorian, Din Djarin, will soon also be transported to a video game, as there have been rumours of this happening for some time now.
First in April 2021, an insider claimed that a game about The Mandalorian was in development. However, he did not reveal any details. The speculation gained new momentum again in August, when there was a supposed gameplay leak that showed a classic third-person shooter.
The emphasis is on alleged, however, because the gameplay scenes are very likely just a very elaborate fake by a fan.
Officially, a video game for The Mandalorian has not yet been announced. Disney and Lucasfilm Games are silent on the subject and are not participating in any speculation.
We will add more Star Wars video games to the article as soon as we know more. What kind of game in the Star Wars universe would you like to see? Post it in the comments!
