From mid-January, The Last of Us will finally be launched here on Sky and WOW. Now more details about the general setting and the first episode have been released
Both parts of The Last of Us are characterised above all by their excessive depiction of violence. But as Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckman explains, there will be no such brutal display of violence in the series. According to SFX, you justify this decision as follows:
We need a certain amount of action or violence that we can use for the mechanics, so that you connect with Joel and get into a flow state. Then you”d really feel like you”re connected to this avatar on screen and seeing the world through his eyes.
But you don”t get that in a passive medium. One of the things I loved hearing from [co-creator Craig Mazin] and HBO very early on was, “Let”s take out all the violence except for the very most important stuff. That allowed the violence to be even more impactful than it was in the game, because when you keep showing the threat and you see people”s reaction to a threat, it makes it even scarier. And when we reveal the infected and the clickers, you see what brought humanity down and why everyone is so scared.
The pilot is getting longer than usual
In addition to the information on the depiction of violence, conclusions could also be drawn about the length of the first episode of The Last of Us. According to the broadcast schedule, it will have a length of 85 minutes, which makes it slightly longer than an ordinary HBO series episode. Apparently, the creators want to set the ball rolling on important events and lay a foundation for the episodes to come.
You”ll be able to stream the nine-episode series on Sky and WOW from 16 January 2023. It stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones) as Joel and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie. Please note that the episodes will air weekly.
