The demo of Rotwood turns out to be a surprise success at Steam Next Fest

The Steam Next Fest is currently in full swing: From February 5 to 12, 2024, you can test over 1,600 different (and of course free) demos on Steam.

The Steam event offers smaller developer studios in particular the opportunity to gain a lot of attention for their games – including Klei Entertainment and their new action game Rotwood, which is already enjoying great success thanks to the demo campaign.

Rotwood demo goes down well on Steam

Rotwood is a roguelite hack-and-slay game that you can play either alone or in co-op mode with four players. Here you have to fight your way through a forest maze and overcome various challenges and dangers to earn new weapons, equipment and crafting resources

What these threats look like can be seen here in the gameplay trailer for Rotwood:

Since the Steam Next Fest has been underway, Rotwood has not only attracted around 3,000 players a day through its demo, according to SteamDB, but has also broken the 20,000 follower mark. This puts it in the Top 10 most-played demos of the campaign week, as Steam informed us by email.

A specific release date is currently not known. However, Rotwood will initially be released in Early Access. You can already put the game for your PC on your (Steam-Wishlist) right now.

By the way, this isn’t the first game from the developers to be a hit on Steam: Klei Entertainment is already known for its Tim Burton-style survival adventure, Don’t Starve, which was released in April 2013.

Have you played Don’t Starve yet? Would Rotwood be something for you at first glance or have you already tested it with the demo? If so, what do you particularly like about it? What other games have you discovered during the Steam Next Fest? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
