Silent Hill: Ascension is an interactive series that you can help determine the outcome of, just in time for Halloween. However, this comes at a price

Last year, publisher Konami announced that the horror series Silent Hill would finally be returning and that a total of three new games would be developed. A few days ago, however, a free, interactive series called Silent Hill: Ascension was launched, the outcome of which will be determined by the fans. However, you can expect a lot of microtransactions here

How does Silent Hill: Ascension work?

A new, short episode of the series is released regularly, lasting around 10 to 15 minutes. Fans can watch them for free and then vote on how they want certain characters to continue. Depending on how the viewers decide, the show will continue next time. The decisions are irreversible and should be anchored in the Silent Hill canon

The twist, however, is that you can’t just use one vote to decide a character’s fate. Instead, you can spend any number of so-called influence points, which you can earn or buy with real money.

With your influence points, you can not only influence the progress of the series on a daily basis, but also apply for your own place on the stage There are regular competitions for which you can buy one or more tickets with your points. If you are lucky (or buy a lot of tickets), your self-designed avatar will become part of the series and the Silent Hill canon, as promised

That sounds like Pay2Win? The CEO of developer Genvid (emphasized last) yet, the opposite is the case. However, in the official videos for Ascension, it seems as if the people with the biggest wallets are simply determining the progress of the story.

After all, influence points can also be earned without paying real money Although one of the best ways is the purchasable Season Pass, you can also solve puzzles and watch live broadcasts of key scenes for important characters to earn more points

Of course, it remains to be seen how significant the microtransactions really are in the end and whether you can get far without buying points or a Season Pass.

What do you think of Silent Hill: Ascension? Do you generally like the idea of an interactive series whose outcome you can help determine? Or do you simply want to experience a story as it was intended? Will you give Ascension a chance or are you too put off by the microtransactions? Let us know in the comments!
