New gameplay from the alpha version of the FIFA competitor UFL has recently been released. The video shows promising mechanics in the game.

With EA Sports now continuing under its own name, the question is whether this change leaves room for new competition. This is where the game UFL could cause a ruckus. On 26 March, a first gameplay video for the alpha was published on their Youtube channel.

UFL will be free

The competitor for EA Sports’ new title will have one big advantage, it is said to be completely free. In addition, the developers of UFL Strickerz Inc. are trying to work very close to the community

In contrast to EA Sports, there will be a big focus on the feedback of the players*. In addition, the game will not offer the possibility to buy advantages with money. The focus should be on skill-based gameplay and not on the amount of money you put into the game.

First gameplay of the alpha version

As the game is a football simulation, the gameplay naturally has a strong resemblance to the FIFA parts. Unfortunately, this is not yet as mature as in the last game from EA Sports.

The players still move somewhat unnaturally. Even the ball moves strangely after it has been kicked. All in all, the game still doesn’t look as real and natural as the last FIFA part.

Nevertheless, you can notice the willingness to admit one’s mistakes and to respond to the community. At the end of the video a small montage of the different bugs that appeared so far was added. In the comments, the creators of the game even ask for feedback.

UFL to come out in 2023

After the release date was pushed back in August 2022, there is no exact date yet. Only that UFL is supposed to come this year is already known and maybe that’s a good thing.

Of course it’s annoying when games are postponed. Still, it’s better when a game developer takes more time to finish their product. Especially when trying to replace a titan of the video game industry.
