Supermassive Games is releasing a new horror game in the summer of 2022 in which you, as a teenager, must survive a bloody night at a summer camp.
If you’ve ever sat around a campfire at night in the middle of a deserted area, you know how creepy it can be. No wonder many horror stories choose remote holiday camps as the location for horrific events.
The Quarry, a horror game announced on 17 March, also lets you accompany a group of teenagers through a night at summer camp – what could possibly go wrong? The Quarry is being developed by Supermassive Games (Until Dawn) and is supposed to convince with serious decisions and cinematic staging. You can already admire these in the first trailer:
Release and platforms
The Quarry is scheduled for release on June 10, 2022 from Steam, as well as for PS5, PS4, Xbox X/S and Xbox One. The game stands on its own and is not part of the Dark Pictures Anthology.
What to expect at summer camp
But what is the story of The Quarry all about? The developers probably won’t reveal too much in advance. After all, their games are usually about uncovering a secret, which is also the key to saving the game characters. At least we already know a few details:
A group of nine teenagers who work as counsellors at a holiday camp want to use one last night there to party after the children have left. Things quickly go wrong, however, and the group finds itself threatened by bloodied locals and something much worse. By the time the next day dawns, the main characters are on their own and must do their best to survive.
Main Features
- Decisions: As in all Supermassive Games games, your decisions are at the forefront of cutscenes and dialogue. They have a massive influence on the end of the story. Even seemingly small things can have big consequences. In The Quarry, too, every playable character can probably die or survive, depending on your decisions.
- Difficulty: What is new is that you can now change the difficulty of the game. It is not yet known exactly how this works, but you should be able to adjust all game elements. It is conceivable, for example, that you can adjust quicktime events so that you have more time.
- Movie Mode: If you want to sit back and just experience the story, you can look forward to this new mode. Here you only have to choose how you want the story to continue.
- Optional co-op mode: In The Quarry you can play alone or experience the story together with friends. If you want, you can also put your fate in the hands of up to seven spectators, who then determine the decisions of the characters
- Movie-like production: As in other games, the developers worked with actors who are already known from horror films. With the help of face capture, cinematic lighting technology and probably also cleverly selected camera angles, The Quarry wants to create a cinematic rollercoaster ride
