This should cause a cry of joy in many living rooms: Whoever wants to play The Sims 5 doesn’t even have to reach for their wallet (for now).

Although the project name is still officially Project Rene, for the sake of simplicity we’ll just speak directly about The Sims 5. And today there’s big news about the upcoming part of the popular life simulation.

Because The Sims 5 will indeed be Free2Play! EA has now officially confirmed this. We’ve got all the info on the big announcement ready for you, so make sure all your bars are in the green and then let’s get started!

All info about the Free2Play version of The Sims 5

Where did this info come from? Publisher EA themselves dropped the price bomb in the latest edition of the community update Behind The Sims, which you can check out here:

What does this mean? It means that you can play the basic game for free without having to put any money on the counter. This is ideal for all those who want to have a look at the game before they spend any money.

Will all content be free? Anyone who knows The Sims knows that this game is likely to be only about 0.001 percent as big at release in the basic version as it will be a few years later. The reason for this: many, many DLCs. And according to EA, there will be them again in The Sims 5.

According to Lyndsay Pearson, VP of Franchise Creative, they want to change the mix a bit. It would be conceivable, for example, that the free basic game would also receive new content from time to time, not just DLC buyers. But we don’t know anything more specific yet

What about The Sims 4? The current part of the series only became Free2Play last October and will not be discontinued with the launch of the successor. Instead, both parts are to exist in parallel for a while longer.

What else exciting was revealed? In the above stream it is also revealed that in The Sims 5 we will actually have to do without the good old energy bars that indicated the well-being of our Sims. A different system will take their place. What exactly is not yet known.

What do you say to the Free2Play variant of The Sims 5? Are you happy about it? Has this just put the life simulation on your radar because you wouldn’t have otherwise considered it? Or would you have preferred a classic paid version? We’re eager to hear your opinion, so feel free to write it in the comments!
