Building games too rarely rely on a co-op mode. A new project, however, is completely dedicated to this
Construction games have often been a largely solitary genre in the past. However, the trend towards cooperative play is growing. Anno 1800, for example, plays at least as wonderfully in co-op as it does alone. Prison Architect also impresses with its cooperative multiplayer and recently such a mode was revealed for Pioneers of Pagonia.
A completely new building game now wants to bring the two-player game fully into focus. This is The Whims of the Gods, which is set to go into Early Access in the third quarter of 2024.
This is The Whims of the Gods
The Whims of the Gods is coming to Steam and is being developed by PJ Games. A new studio founded in 2021 and based in Warsaw. The construction game will be the young studio’s first project
Here we are transported to South American antiquity, where we are building a metropolis at the foot of a volcano. On the one hand, this is done in typical construction style by acquiring resources, fulfilling needs and developing new production systems. But on the other hand, the game was created with co-op in mind right from the start.
You can build your settlement directly together with a friend and concentrate on placing new buildings and managing chains of goods together. However, there will also be a decision-making mechanic that defines exactly who can take on which task in the city
In the description, however, it also sounds as if it is also conceivable that you could get into a fight with your allies.
what else is in the game
Apart from the classic structure and the co-op component, there are a few other special features in The Whims of the Gods:
- The battles: Enemies can come out of the volcano, which must be defeated in automatic battles. You can influence the battles with special abilities.
- The volcano: The volcano can erupt at any time and destroy your city. You must pacify the gods to delay this moment.
- The Calendar: The game is inspired by Mayan culture and features its own version of the Mayan calendar. The calendar can predict upcoming events, such as rich harvests, epidemics or natural disasters.
