Henry Cavill’s farewell as Geralt of Riva in The Witcher: Season 3 was originally going to be a little different.
The third season of The Witcher has now been released in its entirety on Netflix and with it fans have to say a final goodbye to Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt From Season 4 onwards, Liam Hemsworth will be wielding the silver blade and according to the producers, there is a lore-friendly
explanation for this.
What exactly this is all about is already being discussed controversially in the community. What is certain, however, is that season 3 still leaves this question unanswered. As the usually very well-informed Witcher expert site Redanian Intelligence reports, the current season should have at least said goodbye to Henry Cavill as Geralt in a different way.
How The Witcher: Season 3 Ends
From here on out, be warned of spoilers: Season 3 of The Witcher ends with an injured Geralt (Henry Cavill) being healed by Yennefer (Anya Chelotra). Immediately afterwards, however, they part ways again and there is at least the promise that the two will meet again.
Gerald then decides that he can no longer remain neutral if he really wants to fight evil and save Ciri. He then sends an injured soldier of Nilfgaard’s to Emhyr (Bart Edwards) with an explicit warning that he will free Ciri at all costs.
Geralt, Jaskier (Joey Batey) and Milva (Meng’er Zhang) then set off together and this is the last scene with Henry Cavill in The Witcher. We then switch back to Ciri (Freya Allan) who was rescued by the rat gang from a group of bounty hunters. Ciri had to kill her first human in the process and tells the rats that she should be called Falka – after a legendary warrior princess.
How The Witcher: Season 3 was originally supposed to end
According to Redanian Intelligence, a slightly different ending was originally planned for season 3 of The Witcher. The basic starting situation remains the same, but we would have watched from the perspective of Cahir (Eamon Farren) as Milva rushes to Geralt’s aid.
Thereupon Geralt, Jaskier and Milva would have ridden off into the sunset with Cahir at their heels. This would have been a clear teaser, preparing for season 4. Already in the books, Cahir is undergoing a transformation from a villain to something of a supporter of Geralt, and should even tangle with the next big baddie whose cast we may already know.
As to why exactly we didn’t get to see this ending to season 3, Redanian Intelligence can only speculate. At the very least, there is a suggestion that this finale would have been too similar to that of the Witcher prequel Blood Origin . Also, the Netflix series might take a little more time before Cahir actually joins Geralt’s group – in the novels, he is still captured by elves before that.
