In late October, it was announced that Henry Cavill would no longer play the role of Geralt of Rica in The Witcher. A new rumour gave reason to believe that showrunners and screenwriters were not to blame for the sacking. Instead, Cavill may have brought this annoyance on himself. However, this has now been refuted.

Who is to blame for Henry Cavill no longer being part of The Witcher? Good question, confusing answers. A recent tweet from @renfriscreyden led many to believe that the should actually lie with Henry Cavill himself. He had allegedly turned into a “gamer bro” who was foul-mouthed towards the female part of the film’s crew, specifically producer and director Lauren Hissrich. He also allegedly altered scripts at the last second, disregarded instructions from the director and had no sense of the show’s available budget.

Unfortunately @renfriscreyden’s account is no longer available, so we had to take a (copy of the original post)

After the original post went viral and generated many arguments against these allegations, the account issued an apology. On it, the person explained that they had this transcript from a rumour site and that it was not confirmed information at all.

However, as other sources confirmed, Henry Cavill was said to have not behaved like this at all on set. As co-star Anya Chalotra, for example, (explained at the beginning of January), he was an extremely pleasant colleague who was said to be very empathetic towards his co-stars.
In addition, numerous voices had already been raised about Cavill having the most knowledge about the setting of The Witcher precisely because of his enthusiasm for gaming. For this reason, he said, he wanted the series (in contrast to other screenwriters and director) to be as close as possible to the book and video game template. This is confirmed by (some statements made) by him.

And yet… even if he really only wanted to create a closeness to the original template, he could still have behaved disrespectfully towards various crew members and overdrawn the series’ budget. Of course, it is impossible to testify who disrespected whom first, as neither side has yet written a clear statement about the situation. But (as an interview with Lauren Hissrich reveals), there might finally be a clear statement about the situation in the new year.
