Yuletide was supposed to be a way to celebrate and get rare items. But instead, bugs spoil the festive mood.

Update from 6 January 2022: As Ubisoft announced via Twitter, the Yule problem will be addressed with the new update 1.4.1.2 just in time for the beginning of the year. However, this does not mean that you will suddenly be able to collect new rewards or even take part in new competitions. The update is only intended to fix the bug that the Yule log does not even appear for many players.

If your Viking village has been a bit of a party pooper up until now, it’s worth a visit after today’s update. After all, you still have until 27 January 2022 to earn the rewards.

: Like last year, Yule has started in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and is redecorating your home village into a festival site. There you can collect so-called Yule Tokens for participating in special events, such as drinking games, fist fights and smaller missions like shooting competitions.

You can exchange these Yule tokens for rewards, such as weapon sets and pieces of armour – at least in theory. In practice, the Yule log apparently doesn’t even come out of the starting blocks for many players and simply doesn’t appear. In addition, the rewards are often identical to the items of the previous year, which also causes annoyance.

The quest Counting Sheep, which you can complete as part of the current crossover event with AC Odyssey, could also cause annoyance. Find out where you can find the five required shards to complete the quest in our guide:

What does Yule bring to Valhalla?

This is how the people of your home village celebrate Yule - when it comes around.

How long does Yulefest run? Officially, the event will run from 16 December 2021 to 6 January 2022. It is not yet known if there will be an extension due to the problems.

Where will the festival take place? Before you scour the vast game world for festive activities: Yule will only take place in your home village. If you don’t see any signs of a festival there, you are most likely also affected by the bug.

What can I do at the Yule Festival? At the festival, there are several ways to get your hands on the coveted Yule tokens:

  • Wrestling: Real Vikings have a contemplative fight. Face your opponents in the ring and send them to the boards.
  • Drinking Contest: Drink as much mead as you can and finish last to win this one.
  • Archery: Hit as many targets as you can with your bow in a tight time slot.
  • Quests: Two different quests that start in your village will also provide you with a lot of tokens.

What rewards do I get? You can choose from a special armour set and a powerful weapon. There are also hair styles for Eivor and some winter decorative items for the settlement.

There will be even more new content for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla next year. Dawn of Ragnarok, a new giant DLC, will be released. You can find out what it contains here:

Nervous bugs and no known solutions yet

The problem with Yule is that it often doesn’t even happen – and if it does, it’s only with false rewards or other bugs. (On Reddit) the complaints of affected players are piling up. There are no official solutions yet, but here is a list of the problems that are already known:

  • The Yule Festival does not take place: Of course, you could try the classic restart of the game. Also, make sure you’ve already set foot on English soil and completed one of the first story arcs, as this seems to be a prerequisite for the feast to appear
  • The same rewards as last year: When your feast comes around and you want to exchange your hard-won Yule tokens for rewards, you may be offered the same armour pieces as last year. You can buy them again, but it won’t do you any good. In fact, your existing set pieces may be weakened as a result.

Ubisoft has also reacted in the meantime and clarified via Twitter that they have noticed the problems and are now investigating them. So you can expect an update soon – we will inform you here as soon as there is news to report.
