These 2 minutes in Unreal Engine 5 show just how impressive the games of the future can look

Epic has released a new showcase with many different demos showing what kind of visuals we can expect in the future.

There have been a lot of non-E3 events happening over the past few days. They started with the Summer Games Fest, then continued with the big Xbox-Bethesda showcase and the PC Gaming Show, before Ubisoft also did the honours. In the gaps between these big events there were numerous smaller shows.

One of them was the Future Games Show. Not only games that will be released in the near future were shown there, but Epic also showed a trailer. The Unreal Engine manufacturer shows with an approximately two-minute showcase which game graphics we can expect in the coming years.

No in-house tech demo

The special thing about the video is that it is not an elaborate tech demo created by Epic itself. Rather, it shows a compilation of 23 semi-professional works that creative people have created using Unreal Engine 5. If you are particularly interested in one of the clips shown, you can find all the links to the respective demos in the video description of the YouTube video.

What are our personal highlights?  If we had to choose three demos, they would be the big city (0: 04), the extremely detailed Swam Barn (0:54) and the unfortunately only very briefly seen The Witcher Village Environment (1:14).

When does the future begin?

Don’t worry, we won’t get as philosophical as the subheading might make you think. It’s just a question of when games will look as good as they do in the showcase.

We don’t know an exact date, of course. But if we look at upcoming graphics highlights based on the Unreal Engine like Stalker 2 or Hellblade 2, we dare to predict that it won’t be many years until we can enjoy such visuals in everyday gaming.

Now we are curious about your thoughts on the subject. What do you think of the new Epic showcase video? Which of the clips shown in it do you like the most and are there perhaps even scenes that you don’t like for a particular reason? What is your personal graphic highlight of the coming months or years? Write it down in the comments!
