In the brand new horror game Demonologist, you have to hunt ghosts – and thanks to Unreal Engine 5, it”s scarier than ever before.
Remember Phasmophobia? The co-op ghost hunt came out just before Halloween 2020 and took Steam and Twitch by storm. The brand new horror title Demonologist now wants to repeat this feat.
And as it seems, the developers can already show first partial successes: Many major Twitch streamers have jumped on the hype train and the player reviews on Steam are also full of praise.
The next horror hype is called Demonologist
Just recently, arguably one of the best horror games of the year, Resident Evil 4 was released. However, as the remake of the fourth installment in the series delivers more shooters in scary garb instead of assembly line jumpscares, the title to the scariest title of the year is still open.
But Demonologist might have secured it by now. Alone or with up to four players in co-op, you go on a ghost hunt in spooky places. As in Phasmophobia, which obviously served as inspiration in many respects, you use special tools to investigate the paranormal phenomena.
Everyone who has played its spiritual predecessor knows that the atmosphere is thick enough to cut through. And Demonologist takes it up a notch: thanks to the Unreal Engine 5, the lighting of the dark levels is particularly creepy.
You can get a good impression of the solo gameplay from YouTuber Insym, who enjoys an excellent reputation as a horror game expert.
But Demonologist has also arrived on Twitch – after all, many viewers love watching their streamers scare live.
If you want to go ghost hunting yourself: (On Steam) Demonologist is available in Early Access since this week, you pay a discounted release price of around 13 Euros until 3 April 2023.
