The once disastrous reissue of the three GTA classics has finally been fixed, and that’s putting people in a good mood.
First of all, it’s unbelievable that the release of the GTA trilogy was three years ago, but more importantly: It finally works! Without much fanfare or glory, Rockstar November 12, Rockstar released a new patch for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition , and lo and behold, suddenly it feels like a really worthwhile product.
Patch 1.112 has been released for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and is extremely unspectacular. According to the official patch notes only two things were fixed:
- Numerous bug fixes and improvements.
- Classic lighting mode has been added, which recreates the look and feel of the skies from the original games.
This, if I may say so, is the understatement of the year This patch contains so many improvements that the trilogy finally feels complete. At release, the game was teeming with bugs, bad improvements and the versions had catastrophic performance. Now, it seems that much of this has been cleaned up.
What the 1.112 patch has changed
While no details emerge from the official patch notes, GTA fans have already cheerfully dug up plenty of innovations. On X, users like are sharing their finds with the public, and the has summarized everything in a video. Here is a list of the currently known innovations from patch 1.112:
- There is more fog again and real volumetric clouds, which look nice but also prevent you from seeing further than you should.
- In GTA 3 and Vice City, you can now run while shooting with a shotgun or assault rifle.
- Many animations have been fixed. CJ no longer has a hump when he rides a bike and now tips his soda into his mouth instead of through his forehead.
- The windows of the cities are no longer transparent, which caused many problems in the remaster and was poorly implemented. Instead, they look like they did in the original again.
- You can now easily pause cutscenes.
- Claude from GTA 3 can now show people the middle finger again, just like in the original.
But the most important change concerns the lighting The classic lighting mode ensures that the new versions once again exude exactly the same atmosphere that characterizes the originals for many. So in San Andreas, you can now see the more stylized skies again, which can be bright orange or purple.
Bro the Classic lightning doesn’t even look like the same game as the old GTA DE graphics ☠️

This lighting mode was introduced with the release of the mobile versions of the games and received a lot of praise. So yes, absurdly, the PC and console versions now look just as good as they do on smartphones. Who would have thought we’d write that sentence?
Original developers removed from menu
Another change seems strange and a little resentful. With the new patch, the Grove Street Games logo was removed from the main menu. The studio was largely responsible for the implementation of the Definitive Edition and this was not the first time that it had ported a Rockstar game.
Now Rockstar seems to be distancing itself from the studio, however, by removing even the reference to the company at least from the main menu
Is everything okay now?
With the new patch, you can finally enjoy the Definitive Edition without any concerns, but not everything is completely in order yet. According to the first reactions, there are still some issues, such as the somewhat stubborn camera. On top of that, the new patch is now said to be causing problems on the Steam Deck. Here it is reported that the trilogy can no longer be started.
