This is what is known about Total War: Pharaoh
Creative Assembly didn”t go into detail yet and there was no real gameplay to see. However, there is already a bit of information available.
Setting
Total War: Pharaoh is set in the countries around the Nile and has the so-called collapse of the Bronze Age as its theme, so we are in the late Bronze Age from the year 1204 BC. A turbulent time in which peoples either rose to great power or threatened to disappear in the turmoil of history. Geographically, we go not only to Egypt but also to the Sinai Peninsula and Anatolia. Here we fight for supremacy after the death of the pharaoh Merneptah and thus (hopefully) save Egypt from chaos and ruin.
Fractions
There will be eight factions in Total War: Pharaoh, all represented by a leader. Each faction is in turn divided into three peoples who strive for supremacy. The following races will exist:
- Egypt
- Canaan
- The Hittite Empire
It is not yet known exactly how the peoples and factions differ. Measured against Three Kingdoms or Troy, however, each leader will most likely bring their own unique mechanics with them. Sometimes it is a skilful diplomat, sometimes a cunning commander.
Battles
Total War: Pharaoh will once again be a purely historical Total War and will therefore do without monsters or magic, there will also probably not be a legend mode like in Three Kingdoms. In order to make the battles more dynamic, the battlefields in particular will change. And this will also happen during the course of a battle.
The weather can change abruptly, and thunderstorms or sandstorms can affect the ground. There will also be a fire simulation in that flames will spread dynamically to engulf forests or settlements.
Campaign
The turn-based campaign map also has a few surprises. Not much is known yet, but there will be a variety of individual settings. For example, you can decide before the start that factions will be randomly distributed on the map or adjust resource settings. Also new are major natural disasters that will affect your strategic decisions.
Bonuses for pre-orderers
Total War: Pharaoh already advertises special benefits if you pre-order the game. We generally advise against pre-ordering, but for the sake of completeness, here are the bonuses anyway:
- Early-Access: Those who pre-order will be able to play the game on an unspecified weekend before release.
- Two cosmetic packs: Avatar of the Gods and Heart of Shardana brings special visual customisation options.
As soon as more is known about gameplay, release or editions, we”ll let you know!
