Naughty Dog, the developer studio behind the successful games Uncharted and The Last of Us, has laid off a significant number of employees. According to reports, the layoff affects at least 25 people, mostly contract workers who worked in various areas such as quality assurance, production and art. The layoffs come early to the end of the month.
The changes were announced internally, with the team urged to keep the matter confidential. It is reported that those affected will not receive any financial compensation. The layoffs are reportedly attributed to The Last of Us’ planned multiplayer project, which has been in development for some time. In recent months, there have already been rumors about problems with the development of the multiplayer, as little information and no major announcements have been released about it so far. Naughty Dog is not the only developer studio that has announced internal layoffs recently. Other studios like Epic Games and Sega have also laid off employees, indicating various reasons and challenges in the gaming industry.
