The unusual graphics of Need for Speed Unbound are not to everyone”s liking. If you want to switch off the comic effects, then we show you what you can do.

When Need for Speed Unbound was announced, one thing in particular caused a lot of discussion: The racing game relies on a graphic style that combines realistic cars and environments with comic-like effects and characters.

A short time later, the developers pointed out that it was possible to do without the effects when driving races. In the finished game, however, many fans look for this option in vain. If you also want to get rid of the effects, we will show you how to remove them to a large extent.

How to reduce the effects while driving

As the developers clarified in a later tweet, you can”t get rid of all effects, you will always create smoke clouds and tracers:

The various effects are set as equipment for your vehicle and cannot be switched off completely via a menu.

But: It is at least possible to switch to a kind of basic version of the driving effects, where you at least don”t have to see any additional visual extravagances. To do this you need to follow these steps:

  • Go to the garage and select a car.
  • Navigate to the driving effects in ”Style” and then to the tags.
  • Select one of the ”Camouflaged” tags. The most inconspicuous is probably normal, but other colours are also available. In any case, only the standard effects are visible with this.

(With the tag ''Cloaked'' you are unsurprisingly the most inconspicuous.)

If you are still bothered by the remaining smoke clouds and light strips, you still have the option of playing from the bumper or bonnet perspective. Then all comic effects remain hidden. Note, however, that you can still see the effects of other vehicles in races. Our gameplay video also shows you what a race looks like from the bonnet perspective:

If the effects don”t bother you too much, but you”re still not sure whether Unbound is a really good Need for Speed, then (read our review). The fact that Need for Speed is a racing game, as we would like it to be, is also due to its Open World. With a little trick, it becomes a lot more interesting.

Do the comic effects of the new Need for Speed bother you? Do you not care about them or do you like them? Write your opinion in the comments!
