If the Switch’s Joy-Cons were already too small for you, these controllers will challenge all of your fine motor skills.

8BitDo is known for its inexpensive and pretty Bluetooth controllers, which sometimes come along in retro chic. Now the manufacturer is launching what is probably the most compact controller you have ever seen.

The (Micro) christened pusher is designed for Nintendo Switch and Android phones.

Small, but with 16 buttons

There’s not much in the ultra-compact micro. The manufacturer claims that the controller, which is smaller than the palm of your hand, weighs a svelte 25 grams.

For comparison, the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons weigh 50 grams – per pusher.

But there’s a lot to the ultra-compact micro. 8BitDo has screwed a whopping 16 buttons onto the gamer pill. These include:

    • D-Pad
    • A, B, X and Y buttons
    • Four shoulder buttons
    • Plus and minus buttons
    • Start and Select buttons
    • 3-way sliders
    • Pairing button

In addition, the controller has a USB-C port that can be used to charge the Micro or for wired gaming. The battery has a capacity of 180 mAh and should provide around ten hours of gaming fun.

I should also mention: The manual for the Micro points out that, unlike the Joy-Cons, it lacks a gyro, rumble, IR, NFC and player LEDs – and it can’t wake up the Switch. Furthermore, without a joystick, it is only conditionally suitable for 3D games.

    Price and availability

You can pre-order the mini controller now via Amazon or the manufacturer’s website for around 20 euros. The micro-pusher is available in blue and green. According to 8BitDo, delivery will begin on 8 September.

8BitDo launches a Bluetooth controller that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and still comes with 16 buttons. Does this make sense to you or were the Joy-Cons of the Switch already too small? Do you see the Micro as a nice gimmick or can you imagine using it to play games on the go?
