After much criticism of annoying ads on the platform – Twitch is finally looking to make some changes on the ad front.

Twitch has announced that they are experimenting with a new type of advertising called streaming display ads. The idea behind the ads is to give viewers a better viewing experience. They are less distracting ads that allow viewers to see and hear the Creators while they are viewing. Creators receive advertising revenue for each streaming display ad shown. This feature is optional.

The streaming display ads take the form of a banner that either frames the stream currently being shown or is displayed right next to it to keep the stream visible. According to Twitch, these ads are usually displayed for about 10 seconds and cannot be closed. Twitch also said that no more than eight of these ads will be shown in an hour of broadcast time, but that these numbers are subject to change.

While many welcome the changes to advertising, others are a little more critical. Some fear that the introduction of this new form of advertising could lead to more ads being shown overall, while others are still not convinced that the current problem of annoying ads will be solved. As it will come, no one likes it when ads interrupt the streams they are watching. But the streaming display ads could be a good compromise if used properly.
