The tough survival game will soon finally let you play the way you want. Especially base-building fans should be happy about the new options

Valheim is still in Early Access about two years after its release and the developers of Iron Gate Studios are busy delivering new content. A major update is already planned for this year that will send you into the new Ashlands biome, which is somewhat reminiscent of Mordor from The Lord of the Rings.

Now the developers have announced another important feature that will soon make it into the game and that will make especially hardcore professionals and base building fans happy.

Valheim learns from Minecraft

One of the developers, Jonathan Smårs, took to Twitter with a short video showcasing Valheim’s new difficulty options:

While he stressed that the options shown are not final yet, you can still get a good idea of what to expect soon. Especially the six different difficulty options are exciting.

  • Casual Mode: Here the game becomes much easier. Enemies will only attack you after you provoke them, there will be no more raids on your base, resources are distributed in greater quantities in the game world, and you will no longer lose items and abilities upon death.
  • Hammer Mode: This mode is reminiscent of the Creative Mode from Minecraft, because here you can build without being bothered. There are no raids on your base and all buildings can be constructed without resource costs.
  • Immersive Mode: Here your map is disabled and you can’t use portals to increase immersion.

In addition to these three fundamentally different modes, there are also three difficulty levels, Easy, Hard and Hardcore, which make the fights easier or harder and reduce or increase the number of raids on your base. In Hardcore mode, you will also no longer be able to use the map and portals.

But if you want, you can also build your own difficulty level: With the update, you will have many different options and sliders at your disposal, which you can even use to completely disable certain features.

If you don’t want to do the annoying base raids, but want more difficult fights and more resources in the open world, that will soon be no problem. Exactly when the new update will be released is not yet known.
