In Valheim, you’ll need tar from Tar Pits to craft the new Darkwood from Hearth and Home. Our tips will help you find and craft it.
Where can you find the new Tar Pits from Valheim: Hearth and Home? Our compact guide will help you collect the new resource. After all, you need the tar to unlock and craft the new building elements from Darkwood
How to find tar and make Darkwood
Find Tar Pit in Valheim
To find a Tar Pit in Valheim, you need to reach the Plains biome, the plains that is. It is the fifth and currently last area, so you must have already reached the Endgame.
If you are using an old save game, it is important to note that the tar pits do not appear in areas that have already been revealed. You will have to uncover and explore new areas on the Valheim map to get the new resource.
So you will find Tar Pits by chance in newly discovered areas of the Valheim Plain.
Once you have located a Tar Pit, beware of the new Growth enemies. The outgrowths resemble slime blobs from the swamp biome and spit tar at you, poisoning you and incapacitating you. We therefore recommend fighting from a distance with your bow and keeping moving between shots.
If the area is free of growth beasts, you can collect the valuable resource at the Tar Pit. However, the lumps are deep in the tar, so you have to use a little trick:
- Use the pickaxe to dig small channels out of the tar pit.
- Let the liquid tar drain away until the tar level drops.
- Collect the solid tar from the pit, which will unlock the darkwood.
Now we get to what you can do with the sticky stuff.
