The Viking survival game in Early Access now brings new dungeons to the mountains. New dangers lurk there, but valuable treasures also tempt you.
After a long wait, the time has finally come: The Viking survival game Valheim has released its next big update. As has been known for a long time, the mountain regions of the game are being reworked with the mountain update. There you will now find new dungeons where you will encounter mysterious enemies, but also find new resources.

How big is the update?
As usual with Valheim, you don’t have to deal with huge amounts of data here. The download size is only about 50 megabytes, so you don’t have to be prepared for long waiting times.
What’s new?
Freezing Caves: With this update, the developers have added new dungeons to the Mountain Biome. However, the frosty caves will only appear in areas that you have not explored before. In the last few months, several images have already been released showing these caves:
* New Resources: You can now get claws and fur from the werewolf-like Fenrings. Red jute is also added as a new crafting material. You can probably find these in the new caves.
* New Weapon and Armour Set: The Fenris armour consists of trousers, a coat and a hood. When all parts are equipped, it offers an additional bonus. You can also now craft the Flesh Rippers, a new weapon that will likely be worn as a glove and is made from the claws of Fenrings.
* New items to build: You can now lay out rugs and hang curtains in your base. There is also a new standing coal pool.
* Pause function: In single player you can now pause your game. This makes Viking life easier when the parcel postman rings or the tea water is boiling. Those who play Elden Ring can only enjoy such luxuries via mod:
New Event: The new event is called You stirred the cauldron and is apparently related to one of the new enemy types.
Spoiler Warning:If you’d rather be surprised by what awaits you in the caves, then you’d better not read the paragraph about the new enemies!]
New enemies: The patch notes talk about three new enemies: Besides bats, there are supposed to be the so-called Ulv and cultists. Apparently, the caves are home to a kind of wolf cult, from which the new armour is probably also inspired. A concept drawing for the Mountain update shows a wolf-like figure, but it could also be a human with a hood and cloak:
What else is new: Besides the new content, there are also a lot of bug fixes and improvements. Among other things, Valheim now supports controller control, and the game has also been optimised for the Steam Deck.
What’s next?
The next big update brings the Mistlands, a new biome where you will also find new enemies and resources. You should also encounter a final boss there.
In a blog post from 1 March, the developers also shared a new image of a rabbit that is said to inhabit the Mistlands:
Here you will find all the important information about the big update and the complete patch notes.
