One player found out the ungentlemanly way what a misplaced device does. Physics in the survival game knows no quarter.

Valheim’s complex game physics make for deadly chain reactions when cutting down trees, require a lot of sensitivity for statics when building bases and also include the enemies, attacks and parries. That the Norse god of thunder Thor, otherwise a nebulous supporting actor, is also part of the physics calculation sounds only logical.

However, you should always keep this in mind when building your base in the survival game. This is also the case with the Obliterator, a new device since Hearth & Home in Valheim.

One player was caught on the wrong foot by the mechanics: He built the Obliterator inside his base, with the following result:

What happened there?

The fan-requested rubbish shredder serves as a powerful lightning catcher to turn items stashed inside into ashes in true Viking style. Thor himself shoots down a bolt of lightning to destroy the items. If the roof or, even worse, an entire floor is between Thor and your rubbish, the thunder god will also turn parts of your base into scrap.

Players on Reddit are discussing the mechanics under the video, which has received around 2,000 upvotes. Some have already been rudely awakened by Thor and recommend that you only build the rubbish chute outdoors.

We’d advise you to do the same, unless you’d like to try out whether Thor’s lightning can even strike through several storeys of solid stone! Then please enlighten us in the comments, for the sake of science!
