It’s a big challenge to turn a pen & paper system into a video game. Eliott Hipeau explains how it can work. He is the lead quest designer for Big Bad Wolf Studios and comments on the setting of Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong.
Boston, the blood supply for the vampires living there is running low. Therefore, the Camarilla join forces with other factions to ensure a sufficient supply. But at one party, a massive attack occurs. Now it is up to the players to investigate the mysteries behind it and conduct their own investigations.
In Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong you take control of three vampires. Each of them has their own character sheet with their own personality traits that change depending on your play style. This gives you a great deal of freedom in the large game world. However, this freedom also gives you a lot of room for error. Every action will have consequences that will decide the fate of Boston.
The namesake swan in this new Vampire: The Masquerade game is the prince of the Boston Camarilla, Hazel Iversen. His highest motto is to maintain the masquerade, that is, to ensure that vampires continue to live among humans regardless. For the vampires, this means walking a tightrope: between incredible power and the fear of being recognised, they must make use of the city to quench their thirst for blood.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong will be released on 19 May for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are being accepted now. For more details on the game, visit the (official website).
