How is the new Assassin’s Creed being received by players? 82 percent positive Steam reviews for AC Shadows speak for themselves.
The first reviews of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Steam are consistently positive, with the open-world game currently having 82 percent positive reviews. One day after release, a total of almost 4,000 user reviews were submitted on Steam
By comparison, for its predecessors Mirage and Valhalla, 74 and 70 percent of the reviews were positive, respectively. However, the data is distorted, at least for Valhalla, because the game only appeared on Steam after the fact.
In addition, all three games also require on SteamUbisoft Connect as a separate launcher, which in each case has led to isolated criticism.
What players are saying about Shadows
Released March 20, 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already received some enthusiastic feedback from Steam users:
“Shadows is […] fantastic. The story focus of the older ones is back. Coupled with a much better presentation through the choreographed cutscenes, it’s just exciting again to experience this revenge plot.”–Logan_Rush
“It turns out that Ubisoft’s decision to delay the release of Shadows a bit really paid off. The game is polished and bug-free when it comes out – very commendable.” – vsshmalko
»This game was worth the wait! It runs so well and I have so much fun! The combat and stealth are just perfect.« – AndySan
“The seasons and graphics are amazing, the best of the series so far, hope it doesn’t get boring as I keep playing.”–Kinaco
“Finally, good stealth gameplay that hasn’t been in these games for a while. Yasukes samurai combat is also incredibly fun and every attack feels powerful. While not as good as Ghost of Tsushima, it’s still a good game.«– Ebenezer Splooge
The only criticism is a few technical difficulties and the requirement to use the publisher’s own launcher, Ubisoft Connect. The player numbers also look respectable: At its peak, over 41,000 people were playing AC Shadows at the same time as its release.
In the international ratings, Assassin’s Creed Shadows also does very well, with only the quality of the story receiving a few less positive votes. In our test, Shadows earned a rating of 87.
