‎Video game songs at the Olympics

During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, there were some well-known melodies from our favourite video game series to be heard. We have listed them for you.

Video games are a big part of Japanese culture, and some of them have great (sometimes even orchestral) soundtracks. The opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics featured almost exclusively video game music as the Olympians filed into the mostly empty stadium.

We’ve listed some of our favourites below, with the full list following below.

Dragon Quest – Roto’s Theme

Roto’s Theme from Dragon Quest was the first song played as the participants from Greece entered the stadium. Quite fitting, as Roto is an honorary title for legendary heroes.

Final Fantasy – Victory Fanfare

Final Fantasy remains one of the most influential game series to this day, and the Victory Fanfare is the perfect tune to get athletes in the mood for what is to come.

Monster Hunter – Proof of a Hero

Nothing stands for the grand entrance and the epic like Monster Hunter. “Proof of a Hero” is an epic orchestral song and fits the Olympic motif perfectly.
