Bug or on purpose? CoD expert TrueGameData has confirmed that certain weapons cause more damage in Warzone 2.0 than in MW2.

Stats nerd and CoD detective TrueGameData may have confirmed that there are damage profiles in Call of Duty and weapons thus cause different damage in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2. We took a closer look at the whole thing for you.

40 per cent more damage

Along with Season 1 and Season 1 Reloaded, 55 different weapons have been released in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 so far. As with its predecessor Warzone Caldera, we could always be sure that the weapons in Warzone 2.0 were identical in their characteristics in both games until now.

Players did not have to learn important attributes such as damage, range and recoil of individual weapons anew in Warzone 2.0, but could rely on experience values from MW2, which was after all released a month earlier.

As CoD expert TrueGameData has now discovered in tests, at least as far as damage is concerned, that certainty may now be over. In his tests in Al Mazrah, he tested whether the damage of certain weapons is the same as in Modern Warfare 2.

In his test, TrueGameData was able to find a significant difference in the damage of the X12 between MW2 and Warzone 2.0. While the pistol in MW2 normally does 29 damage on a chest hit, in Warzone 2 it hits for 41 damage. This increase in damage could be reproduced for various distances to the target.

Damage on chest hit X12 Pistol Modern Warfare 2:

  • ☻15m = 29
  • 9m – 15m = 36
  • ☺9m = 42

Damage on chest hit X12 Pistol Warzone 2.0:

  • ☻15m = 41
  • 9m – 15m = 52
  • ☺9m = 62

This means that on average the X12 does about 40% more damage in Warzone 2.0 than in MW2. Even though he has only been able to find one weapon that has different damage, TrueGameData sees his assumption confirmed that different damage profiles exist.

It remains to be seen, however, if he or other CoD detectives will discover more weapons that show differences in Warzone 2 and MW2.

Intentional or bug?

The big question that arises is whether this difference in the damage of the X12 is intentional or simply another bug in Warzone 2.0. In four other tests with different weapons, TrueGameData has so far been unable to detect any other differences.

Although this suggests that it is a bug, there could be more to it than that.

We are known to be most vulnerable right after we land with the parachute, especially if enemies have already been on the ground before us and have heavily looted weapons and equipment.

The increased damage of the X12 could thus be an attempt by the developers to compensate a little for this difference in equipment until we had the opportunity to find better weapons. An assumption that has already been voiced several times in the comments on Twitter.

It is not yet known whether Raven Software and Infinity Ward know anything about the possible error. Ultimately, it will probably become clear on 1 February at the latest with the release of Season 2 whether the “bug” has been fixed or will continue to be present in the game.
