At Ubisoft Forward last weekend, a couple of new Assassin’s Creed projects were announced. One of them is the ominous multiplayer game codenamed Invictus. What we know so far, we summarise for you here.
Assassin’s Creed fans have a lot to look forward to. AC Mirage, a title that harks back to the old strengths of the series, will be released next year, Red and Hexe are also said to be in the works, Jade is a mobile spin-off, Infinity will also be released at some point and last but not least, there is Invictus. Let’s take a closer look at the latter.
What is Invictus?
We jump right in with the hardest question of all – what is the game codenamed Invictus anyway? Since the announcement at Ubisoft Forward, we know very little about the title. But a few details are already known:
The first true multiplayer AC: Previous spin-offs of the series already had multiplayer modes, but still clearly focused on the single player experience. Invictus, on the other hand, is intended to be a true multiplayer game.
Known Assassins: It is possible that we will be able to play or at least meet our favourite Assassins like Ezio, Cassandra or Eivor. According to journalist Stephen Totilo, images of some well-known characters have been shown in connection with Invictus.
Just saw Ubisoft’s AC presentation and now I understand why people were surprised about my mention of Invictus. I’ll share a few more details here and some other notes about the franchise not in my story… https://t.co/slwDXMIGPK

- No classic open world: From Totilo’s post it also appears that there will be no specific location like in the previous parts. Exactly how and in which locations Inviction will be played is still unclear.
- Free2Play? According to Assassin’s Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté, a broad player base is to be the target group and there is thought of raising the title as a Free2Play model. However, this is not yet certain. The fact that not even the monetisation model has been decided shows what an early development phase the game is still in.
- Multiplayer developers: Ubisoft has also cobbled together the appropriate expertise. Experienced developers who have already worked on the multiplayer titles Rainbow Six: Siege and For Honor are now working on Invictus.
And how does it play now?
Everything else drifts into the land of vague conjecture and speculation. Probably the biggest and most important question remains: How does it even play? Will we complete missions together like in Assassin’s Creed Unity and take out our target with teamwork? Will there be a PvP mode like in Brotherhood, where we assassinate each other from behind? Or will it be something completely different, or all at once? We simply don’t know.
But we do know a lot more about the next AC game, Mirage. There was also a fancy trailer for it, which you can watch below:
What kind of game Assassin’s Creed Inviction will be, maybe Ubisoft itself doesn’t really know yet. After all, the title will still be a few years away. In addition, Marc-Alexis Côté said in an interview with us that they want to let the community participate more and more in the development of upcoming games by announcing projects very early and thus being able to gauge the mood in the community.
The best example of this is probably the two AC projects with the codenames Red and Hexe: Especially the latter will still have to wait a few years, but there are already reports about the project. There was even a small video teaser to watch:
In our article on AC Hexe you can find out everything we know about the medieval Assassin’s Creed so far.
