“What went wrong?” – A 100,000-penny fine in Kingdom Come 2 raises many questions

A player was suddenly hit with a huge fine, but didn’t know why. The comments under his Reddit post solved the mystery.

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you can get up to some mischief. But you should always be careful not to be observed by prying eyes, otherwise it can get quite expensive.

If your Heinrich gets up to mischief that is witnessed, he will be taken aside by the city guard at the next opportunity. Then you have the choice of paying a fine, talking your way out of it, letting your fists do the talking, ending up in the stocks or worse.

One player took it to the extreme and was confronted with a hefty fine of over 100,000 pennies. But he has no idea what he actually did wrong.

Reddit is puzzling over what happened

In the title of the post, the user asks what actually went wrong. In the comments, he is initially unaware of any guilt. He merely stole a blacksmith’s sword, but is otherwise a well-liked citizen and didn’t even kill a guard. From here on, the plot thickens.

Because the sword that OP stole is not just any sword, but a weapon of the Sword Guild More specifically, an item relevant to a specific quest. One of the other users points this out to him:

Yep, that wasn’t a blacksmith, that was the Swordfighting Guild of Kuttenberg , and that sword is the school’s signature blade. The one they hang in the town hall to issue a challenge.

The mystery could be solved here. In the thread, OP and the commentators are satisfied with this explanation. And the guards also forgave him the debt after he returned all the stolen goods from his pockets and served some time in prison But something about this story just doesn’t smell right. That’s why we put our best man Fabiano on the case.

Because Kingdom Come 2 has a handy feature that shows you what you actually have to pay for when law enforcement catches up with you. Fabiano took advantage of this and reconstructed the case to see if the fine really does increase to 100,000 pennies if you steal the guild’s sword.

Long story short: No, it doesn’t.

If you press “F” (on the PC), you will see what you are accused of and how expensive it is.

For the theft of the sword, Kevin actually only had to pay just 50 penniesand is therefore off the hook. So apparently OP didn’t tell the whole truth and is keeping quiet about a dark secret and maybe a few skeletons in the closet.

Mere theft, no matter how valuable the stolen goods are, will not result in such a high fine. He probably committed some kind of bloody act of violence that he is now trying to cover up – or it was just a bug. Another user writes in the thread that a horse theft resulted in a similarly high fine.

The fact that everything was fine again after the nights in the dungeon and the return of the guild sword doesn’t mean much either. When Henry is arrested, the guards take everything from him that shouldn’t be in his possession.

So some questions remain unanswered. Do you have a theory about what OP might have done wrong? Let us know in the comments and share your detective work with us.
