What’s next for Valheim? The developers are already providing a lot of information. We list the planned contents of the roadmap for you.
The survival hit Valheim didn’t expect its own success. And although updates are delayed because of this, a whole lot of new content is planned for 2022. Here we give you an overview of what exactly will be coming.
The big expansions
Originally, four major expansions were planned in the form of four free updates – all for the year 2021. But already in April it became apparent that the plans were too ambitious and impractical for the small indie studio of Iron Gate.
After the release of Hearth & Home, the makers therefore focused on smaller and more frequent patches, while at the same time tweaking the next big update: Mistlands.
Mistlands
Behind this upcoming update is a completely new biome: the Mistlands. Strictly speaking, they are already in the game, but so far they offer almost no content. This will change in the future. At irregular intervals, there will be small glimpses of the Mistlands, where the terrain is apparently often treacherous and rocky:
Here you will find a new world boss as well as other smaller enemies and previously unknown resources. It is also only the first completely new area. In the end, nine regions are supposed to be available, five of which are already finished in the game.
Cult of the Wolves
This update expands the world creation itself. You should find interesting places more often and the battles themselves will also be expanded. There will also be side quests in the course of which you will come across the cult of the wolves that gives the game its name.
Ships and Sea
The name says it all: Ships and seafaring will be expanded. Among other things, features such as decorating your boats with colourful shields are coming. In addition, you should be able to discover much more during your journeys on the high seas.
Features without dates and biome updates
While the mentioned addons are considered to be certain, there is still a list of features that the developer wants to do, but which are still in limbo and therefore don’t have a release date:
- Multiplayer Interactions
- combat enhancements
- Moon phases
- Expansion of the trader inventory
- Svartalfr Brigands
- More unique places
- Sandbox mode
- Munin (another raven besides Hugin)
Great details are not yet available on these planned changes. However, Iron Gate also plans to further develop the existing biomes and add new locations, enemies and items. For example, a new type of monster has been spotted in the swamps.
And the plains got a completely new source of raw materials with many recipes in the form of the tar pits. Next up are the mountain regions: in the high peaks there will soon be caves and dungeons, as we know them from the Bleak Forest. Some screenshots already show what these will look like:
The mountain caves are to be released as an update in spring 2022, an exact release date is not yet known. After that, the developers want to concentrate fully on the development of the Nebellands again.
What else is to come later?
Ashlands: Although the developer himself has not yet commented on this, the Ashlands are another potential candidate for an update. By the way, this is what the Ashlands look like so far:
You can already mine resources here, but you can’t use them yet. It would only be logical if an upcoming update adds more content here.
