GPU Roadmap: What graphics cards can we expect in 2023 and beyond? An overview of possible and announced cards from Nvidia, AMD and Intel

Nvidia”s RTX 4000 is slowly working its way down the performance pyramid, AMD”s Radeon RX 7000 is still only sitting on three released models (yet). But both manufacturers have not yet occupied all rows and performance classes with their current generation of graphics cards.

Which models we still expect for the current generations and what the rumour mill already thinks they know, we have compiled for you.

We”ve also given you a first glimpse of what”s to come: RTX 5000 and Radeon RX 8000. And we haven”t forgotten Intel”s graphics card plans either.

Gaming graphics cards: When is what coming from whom?

  • New graphics cards from Nvidia
  • New graphics cards from AMD
  • New graphics cards from Intel

New graphics cards from Nvidia

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000

Meanwhile, a large part of the expected RTX 4000 lineup has been released. After the RTX 4090 kicked things off in October 2022, the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, the latest offshoot of the graphics card generation to date, hit the market on July 18.

However, Nvidia probably still has a few models up its sleeve. Specifically, there are three different cards that have already been mentioned several times in the rumour mill:

  • GeForce RTX 4090 Ti: The new flagship card above the RTX 4090 is supposed to bridge the waiting time until the next graphics card generation. Assuming that the RTX 4090 Ti has the full power of the AD102 GPU, you can expect 144 compute units and 16,384 compute cores – another 12.5 percent more than the RTX 4090. We hardly believe that Nvidia will leave this air up unused – and (leaked images) as well as a gigantic cooler seem to confirm our suspicions.
  • GeForce RTX 4080 Ti: It is still very quiet around a possible RTX 4080 Ti. There are no direct leaks about the graphics card. Only (TechPowerUp) lists the card in its database with 14,080 processing cores, 2.4 GHz boost clock rate, 110 compute units and 20 GB GDDR6X memory. However, due to the thinness of the rumours, these values should be taken with a grain of salt.
  • GeForce RTX 4050: According to the leak, a desktop version of the entry-level card should have been released as early as June – but that was probably nothing. However, leaker Zed_Wang also expected the card to appear shortly after the recently released RTX 4060 (Ti). According to him, the card will have 2,560 cores and 6.0 GB of memory. That it will come is probably only a matter of time.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000

For the last graphics card generations, Nvidia has roughly stuck to a two-year rhythm. With RTX 5000, they could deviate from this, as a leaked roadmap (via Hardwareluxx) suggests. According to this, cards designated as Ada LovelaceNext will not appear until 2025.

Whether these cards will be released as RTX 5000 or under a new series name is currently unknown – as well as detailed specifications.

New graphics cards from AMD

AMD Radeon RX 7000

While Nvidia already has a large part of its graphics cards on the market, AMD is still holding many of its potential products up its sleeve. Only three current generation models are available so far (RX 7900 XTX, RX 7900 XT and RX 7600).

Information on many of the new cards was accidentally leaked by AMD in May, as reported by (Tom”s Hardware) . The following GPUs could still appear:

  • Radeon RX 7950 XTX: The high-end card should probably use the top GPU Navi 31, possibly it is a refresh of the already released RX 7900 XTX. As (Igor”s Lab) suspects, there might not be any concrete release plans for the card – it might only serve as a placeholder in case more powerful products become necessary.
  • Radeon RX 7950 XT: Basically, the same applies to the graphics card as to its larger sister model – only in relation to the RX 7900 XT.
  • Radeon RX 7900 GRE: According to a leaker (@momomo_us) the high-end card will be released in July – but probably only in China. The card is supposed to be very similar to the already released RX 7900 XT, but the memory is reduced to 16 GB and only offers a 256-bit bus. In return, the power consumption drops to 300 watts, as (Sven Bauduin from PCGH) reports.
  • Radeon RX 7800 XT: According to the AMD leak, the RX 7800 XT will use a Navi-32 GPU. In addition, the card should have 16.0 GBytes of GDDR6 memory, as Leaker (@harukaze5719) announced in June. This coincides with Moore”s Law is Dead statements linked below. He still expects a card with 16.0 GBytes of memory, which also has 70 compute units and a TBP of 260 watts.

  • Radeon RX 7800: This card is not mentioned by the AMD leak. Nevertheless, the graphics card could be presented soon – possibly already at GamesCom, as the YouTuber (Moore”s Law is Dead) wants to know. He also talks about a full-blown Navi 32 GPU with 60 compute units, 16.0 GBytes of memory and a 256-bit memory bus, as well as a TBP of 260 watts. He expects a release in September.
  • Radeon RX 7700 (XT): According to the AMD leak, the mid-range card gets a gfx1102 GPU – which is then probably a Navi-33 GPU. Moore”s Law is Dead, on the other hand, expects a Navi 32 GPU. He also expects 54 compute units, 12.0 GB of video memory and a TBP of 245 watts. Whether the card will be released in September as RX 7700 or RX 7700 XT is still unclear according to him – even though one is probably leaning towards an RX 7700.
  • Radeon RX 7600 XT: AMD had already listed the mid-range card in the online shop by mistake. As with the RX 7700 XT, a Navi 33 (gfx1102) is to be used here as the GPU.
  • Radeon RX 7500 XT: The entry-level model, if it appears, will probably also use the Navi 33 (gfx1102) as GPU.

AMD Radeon RX 8000

As with Nvidia”s RTX 5000, the rumours surrounding the RX 8000 are still very thin. Among other things, a leap to the new architecture RDNA 4, manufactured in TSMC”s N3 process, is assumed.
Furthermore, the top model, possibly an RX 8900 XTX, is supposed to offer (a full 18,432 shaders) . A new memory architecture in the form of GDDR7 and PCIe 5.0 are also expected.

However, these are all still isolated voices, some of which are predicting very high leaps – for example in the number of shaders. The data should therefore be viewed with an extra portion of mistrust.

Time-wise, it could come down to the year 2025, similar to Nvidia, considering how long AMD is holding back with new RX-7000 graphics cards.

New graphics cards from Intel

Arc Alchemist and Alchemist+

With Arc Alchemist, Intel has also placed itself on the gaming card market. And in order to gain further presence there, the manufacturer is apparently planning to place new graphics cards before the end of the year.

There is, for example, the A580, which has already been announced but never appeared, and for which there were new rumours at the end of July. With an expected price of around 200 euros, it could be an exciting alternative for budget gamers.

The other graphics cards from Intel are probably a refresh of the already released cards called Alchemist+. Two cards are expected with power consumption of 75 to 100 and 175 to 225 watts respectively.

Intel could show the graphics cards during its innovation event in September, releases could then follow in 2023.

Arc Battlemage

Intel”s second generation graphics card, codenamed Battlemage, is not expected until 2024. This is based on an internal roadmap leaked by (RedGamingTech) from March.

According to this, a release in two waves is also planned here. First, the cards designated as G10 are to replace the A580, A750 and A770 models in the second quarter of 2024. This will be followed in the third quarter by G21 successors for the entry-level A310 and A380 GPUs.

With Battlemage, Intel is to focus primarily on the segments Performance and Enthusiast . They also want to further optimise the current architecture and make progress especially in ray tracing acceleration.

Arc Celestial and Druid

The third and fourth generation Intel graphics cards still seem a long way off. One should not expect corresponding models before 2025

Until then, even leaks about the cards should be viewed with more scepticism than usual, as a lot can still change in the development process.

Which of the models do you think are likely in the near future? Do you already have your eye on a particular graphics card to buy at release or at a later date? Which of the manufacturers do you see ahead in the next few years? And do you still believe that some of these cards could reappear at an affordable price? Let us know in the comments!
