In the future, PC and PlayStation adventurers will be able to play together. The still open question, however, is the “when”.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been available on the PC for a few weeks already. Brave heroes on the PlayStation 5, however, will only finally be able to enjoy the egg-laying pillow among role-playing games on 6 September 2023.
Now that both platforms are being served, the idea that fans will want to play together is naturally obvious. After all, cross-play, while far from standard, is certainly present here and there in major titles. Baldur’s Gate 3 will also support cross-platform play in the future.
But, you probably guessed it: there’s a catch…
When it’s done
To (Eurogamer) developer Larian, in the form of Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, confirmed that crossplay has always been a firmly planned feature for Baldur’s Gate 3. But in order to get the launch over the line, work on it was pushed back.
What’s the catch now? Here you go: At the moment Michael Douse cannot say exactly when crossplay will be integrated into the role-playing game. To be more precise, he can’t even give a rough time frame yet They have an idea of when they would like to have it ready, but they don’t want to give a date until this date can be met beyond doubt
But there is at least one legitimate reason for speculation: Because the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 is still scheduled for release in 2023. This could be the ideal time to enable crossplay on all three platforms, don’t you think?
Would you be happy about crossplay in Baldur’s Gate 3? Have you played cross-platform with other fans in other games and if so, how did it go? Did everything go smoothly or did you encounter obstacles that spoiled your desire for crossplay in the future? Feel free to post your experiences and opinions in the comments!
