The Youtube channel TechPlay impressively shows how the two classics Far Cry and Bioshock could look like in Unreal Engine 5.
Far Cry and Bioshock are two of the most popular single-player shooter franchises ever, and while both have a few years under their belts, both games have aged quite well both graphically and gameplay-wise.
Despite this, one wonders what both games might look like with today’s technology. An answer to this question is provided by the YouTube channel TeaserPlay, which has created a tech demo for both games, showing fan recreations of the classics in Unreal Engine 5.
Old games in a new look
The Youtube channel of (TeaserPlay) consists of a team of indie graphic designers who have made it their mission to turn such ideas into reality. On their channel you can find dozens of concept trailers of old games like GTA Vice City or Red Dead Redemption and how a remake of them might look like in Unreal Engine 5.
In their two most recent videos, they present you the two shooter classics Far Cry and Bioshock. The new features of the Unreal Engine 5 are used to full effect.
- Lumen illuminates the scenes realistically and dynamically
- Nanite increases the level of detail of the geometry
- Virtual shadow maps provide high-resolution shadows
The demos themselves run on an Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090 at dynamic 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, according to their creators.
You can watch the two videos for yourself here:
The two tech demos are just concepts and not real games. Still, they give us a taste of what’s possible and what future games may look like.
But as bombastic as the two demos may look, they aren’t quite perfect. At the 00:58 time mark in the Far Cry video, for example, you can nicely see crabs moonwalking across the sand. Nevertheless, they are worth seeing UE5 projects.
The Unreal Engine 5 demos from this article are visually very impressive from our point of view, but how important are such good graphics in games to you anyway? Is a good artstyle more valuable than realistic graphics? Have you played a game with Unreal Engine 5 and did you like it visually? Write us your opinion about it in the comments!
