At the beginning of the awards season, the Amazon series is vigorously promoting itself. To do so, it is using negative reviews, of all things.

Once celebrated as an irreverent satire on contemporary superhero films from Marvel and Co., The Boys has itself become the target of plenty of criticism. And as is so often the case on the internet, criticism often includes toxic rants that can be quickly typed out anonymously.

Since season 4, The Boys has had to listen to a lot: from Woke agenda spewed over every episode to communist propaganda, it’s all there. The Amazon series is now using these comments to its advantage – namely, as advertising for the upcoming awards season.

Best Drama Series 2024? The Boys sees good chances

Every year in winter, the big awards season begins in Hollywood. Between all the Emmys, BAFTAs and Oscars, there is hardly any time for the nominees to drum up publicity for themselves. But that’s exactly what The Boys are doing now, in their usual quirky way.

On an advertising poster, the series does not hide the toxic comments, it even puts them in the spotlight. The message: We have so much drama, we have to win!

Anyone who thinks The Boys isn’t a drama series? is mistaken. The show about superheroes, some more and some less sane, is generally categorized as action, black comedy, satire, superhero and, yes, drama.

Fans love it

On X and Reddit, many fans are celebrating the advertising campaign for their favorite show In addition to the idea itself, the authors of the troll reviews are also in the unwanted spotlight:

  • Whoever is promoting The Boys knows how to troll and keep people talking about the show long after the season has aired. (link)
  • It always makes me laugh when people realize they’re being trolled by this show. (Link)
  • The fact that it took them 4 seasons/5 years to realize that the show was making fun of them will always be funny. (Link)

Whether The Boys will go home with trophies at the upcoming award ceremonies thanks to this marketing move remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: it will continue, even after the final fifth season. With Gen V, Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico, three spin-offs are set to provide fans with new stories about Supes and all those who want to be like him.
