The freshly announced survival game Serum wants to put great emphasis on story and a unique game world. We were the first to talk to the developers.

The publisher Toplitz Productions, which you surely know through games like Medieval Dynasty , presents its latest game: Serum is an eerie survival game that aims to offer more than just the usual mix of resource harvesting, base building and crafting.

We were the first to speak to Polish development studio Game Island and reveal exclusively on GlobalESportNews what you can look forward to when Serum releases in 2023.

What to expect in Serum

At the beginning of the game you wake up in an eerie forest from which there seems to be no way out Mutated animals are everywhere and a neon green liquid – the eponymous serum – sticks to the trees. For the developers, the game world is the first thing that distinguishes our game from other games

You can get an impression of this game world in the screenshot gallery:

You don”t know what this serum is at the beginning: You only know that it makes you more powerful and that your life depends on it. If you don”t inject yourself with the liquid regularly, you will die, as the developers have revealed to us:

And then there”s the serum itself – the mysterious, addictive substance that sets the pace of the game”s action and has some impressive abilities. You need it to survive, but it can kill you if you”re not careful with it

Only as you progress through the game will you learn more about the background as you explore the mysterious game world – but it”s a long road until then. The further you venture into the forest, the more powerful beasts you will encounter. The necessary equipment to take them on, as well as the serum that is essential for survival, can be researched and crafted in your self-built base:

Each base has defensive and offensive upgrades that can be used to craft new tools and weapons, drastically increasing your chances of survival. In addition to upgraded crafting, players can also use greenhouses to grow new crops specific to their biome. Improving your base will also give you access to new serum recipes that will affect your hero”s abilities

(In typical survival game fashion, there will be many crafting stations in your base.)

“The game will challenge players in many ways, and death can come in many shapes and sizes, but the greatest reward is overcoming it. Players will have many tools at their disposal and with each small advancement they will gain access to more advanced technologies and crafting options.

With the ability to mix different types of serum that give enhanced abilities, they can try different strategies for each type of challenge. Finding the right strategy will keep players hooked, and the rewards for overcoming each problem will keep them coming back”

In case the first trailer at the beginning of the article was a bit too short for you, you”ll get to see a lot more gameplay in the developer video than in the actual trailer:

Although Serum certainly sounds pretty exciting and looks outstanding thanks to Unreal Engine 5: We”ll all have to wait until at least the end of 2023for the release. But until then, Toplitz and Game Island want to reveal a lot more about the mysterious world
