All were supposed to have access to a beta of the new Warhammer 40K shooter. But it has now been canceled because the developers have to take care of the technical condition
The planned release ofWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2is within reach, on September 9, 2024 you will slip into the space armor again. But now the promised open beta has been canceled– a bad sign?
We summarize the reasons given by the developer studio and explain what you’ll get as an apology if you had already signed up for the beta
Why Space Marine 2 is canceling the beta
There should actually be an opportunity for anyone interested to get a taste of the co-op shooter before the release. Namely as part of the aforementioned open beta, which did not yet have a start date – but you could already sign up.
Now it is clear that this open test phase will definitely not take place. This was announced by the developers in aSteam-Postannouncement. It will take all available resources,to ensure that the game is released in a technically clean state:
In recent weeks we’ve seen incredible enthusiasm for the game, both online and at the shows during the North American tour. Our teams at Focus and Saber have been truly overwhelmed by your passion and we’ve been thrilled with the fan artwork, reactions and memes you’ve shared so far
Space Marine 2 is almost ready. We are now fully focused on optimizing, polishing and fixing any remaining issues before release on September 9th. This means that we will not be running a public online beta, as this would keep the development teams from preparing for the full release.
Consolation: As an apology for this disappointing news, everyone who signed up before June 28 will receive this skin for the Bolt pistol.
Second consolation:The post also contains exciting news, such as that the game will launch with dedicated servers. There are also six minutes of commented gameplay, including from the campaign mode. You can watch the video here:
After all, Space Marine 2 has already been postponed for tens of months, and the technical condition was by far the biggest problem in 2023 during our own impressions of the game.
It remains to be seen whether Space Marine 2 can meet its release date this time and whether it will get off to a smooth start
