Blizzard sometimes auctions off pieces of the old World of Warcraft – quite literally. One such collectible is currently causing a stir among fans.

A few WoW fans own a very special collectible: a piece of the old World of Warcraft servers. Over the years, developer Blizzard has beautifully packaged and auctioned off a few of these server blades – and one of these rare objects is currently circulating on Reddit.

First things first: the chances of getting your hands on a piece of a server like this yourself are pretty slim these days. But at least we can admire pictures of them!

Here you can see the post with a photo of the WoW piece:

User Drendari does not reveal exactly where the server piece came from. They were occasionally auctioned off by Blizzard for charitable purposes and occasionally appear on ebay and other auction sites. Currently, several offers are listed there – for 5,000 to 7,000 euros, if you had them imported to Germany. If anyone is tempted: please always check thoroughly whether such offers are legitimate!

What exactly is that anyway?;It is a small, stand-alone server unit that is connected to others to form a blade system. This saves energy and cables. In vanilla WoW, the realms each ran on several such blades. Of course, no readable data is stored on them anymore.

The inscription above the signatures of Blizzard members reveals which content of the game used to run on the disk: the role-playing server Argent Dawn. At least part of it. The joy in the comments is great, some are taken directly many years back in time. User mpokorny8481 writes and

That was my server in vanilla[-WoW]. Amazing!

According to WoWpedia, the owners of a few other blades are known. For example, streamer Sodapoppin owns part of the Aegwynn server, a former PvP realm.

In 2011, Blizzard auctioned off a total of 2,000 server blades, which had hosted 500 realms. The proceeds went to a children’s hospital and its research. The piece shown here was most likely part of that auction.

And what about you? Did you perhaps play on Argent Dawn yourself in the past? Or do we even have people in the GlobalESportNews community who own a server blade themselves? Feel free to write to us in the comments about which former part of the game you have lying around at home – or which one you would love to own!
