What Europa Universalis 4 is about

The name Europa Universalis (from the Latin All of Europe) is a bit misleading. Because the game is not limited to the eponymous continent. Rather, the whole world is playable – from South America to Japan. In GlobalESportNews’ 2020 follow-up, we were thrilled by this, and the rating was correspondingly high.

In EU4, you take control of an entire nation – not just a single character as in Crusader Kings 3 You have complete freedom of choice. You can raise armies and conquer provinces. You can engage in diplomatic intrigue. You can research technologies, expand trade and forge alliances. And in the meantime, you can even take out a subscription for the many, many paid add-ons:

Everything in the game serves the good of your nation, which you lead through almost 400 years of human history, starting in 1444. There is no predetermined goal, with different starting conditions for each nation – which in turn increases the replay value enormously.

Because no two games are the same, because there are so many different ways in which the individual states can interact.
