The zombie action game Dying Light 2 celebrates its first birthday with a look ahead to a fat second year of new updates.

Dying Light 2 is expected to be supported for years to come. Shortly after the release, the team revealed a packed roadmap that extends into the year 2027. However, they were only really specific about the content that was to be released in 2022. What awaits the fans after that, remained vague for the time being

At least until now. Because to celebrate its one-year anniversary, Techland has revealed what plans have been made for 2023. And lo and behold, there are lots of updates and new content planned for this year too. Franchise director Tymon Smektala also talks about all these future plans in a new trailer, which you can watch right here:

This is what the roadmap for 2023 looks like

The roadmap is an obscenely long image that (you can admire in all its glory here). But we”ll summarise the contents of the roadmap for you here in a somewhat clearer form.

February to March

  • Bloody Anniversary Event: From 31 January to 9 February, the game is running a birthday event where you can win new items by cutting up zombies and completing community objectives.
  • Nostalgia Packs: Three new skin packs will be released that let you take on the roles of other characters. Among others, you can appear as Kyle Crane, the hero of the first part.
  • Dropkick Weekend: The Dropkick Weekend runs from 9 to 13 February. We don”t know yet what there is to win here. But we dare to make a prediction and say: It probably has to do with Dropkicks.
  • Community Update 2: The big community update is out now and brings cross-gen support, ragdoll improvements and legendary stages. (You can find the full patch notes here).

Updates in April

  • Improvement of the combat system with even more brutality
  • A transmog system for customisable clothing
  • Exclusive quests for TechlandGG members

Updates in June

  • New special events at night will be introduced.
  • There will be roaming shadow hunters.
  • The parkour system will be further improved.

End 2023

  • The second DLC is released and brings a new story section.
  • The DLC is also set to introduce a new environment that the developer says is incomparable to the game.
  • Finally, the developers promise a new type of weapon that is not meant for close combat.

Overall, however, Dying Light 2 is excellently received by the clientele. After all, together with the predecessor and its add-on, a whole 30 million copies have now been sold. It seems that Techland didn”t overreach itself when they assumed a service plan until 2027 at the time of release.

But how do you see it all? Do you still play Dying Light 2 regularly and are you looking forward to the new content, or was the open-world adventure not able to grip you long enough? Write us your opinion in the comments!
