A Twitter user posts a new GTA6 screenshot, allegedly straight from Rockstar’s office. But many details in the image cast doubt on its authenticity.

With GTA 6, it’s a bit like with the next Elder Scrolls game We’ve known for years that the game is in development, the anticipation among fans is huge, and every new scrap of information is eagerly absorbed by players.

But Rockstar is keeping quiet about the upcoming installment of its gangster saga. For over a year, the developers have not shared any new posts, trailers or images of the upcoming GTA. So, fans are logically clinging to every little clue and supposed leak.

A new screenshot of the upcoming Rockstar game has recently appeared on Twitter, recently X. But fans doubt the authenticity of the image. We’ll tell you what it’s about.

A photo from the office

In a photo uploaded by the GTAVInewz account at the beginning of the year, GTAVInewz, a screen in the Rockstar development office is said to be running GTA 6. In the scene shown, the main character Lucia can be seen from behind. However, many details of the image make attentive fans suspicious.

Because the screenshot doesn’t look particularly appealing and is strangely lacking in detail. An interface with a compass, which is common in GTA games, is nowhere to be seen. In addition, some misplaced black pixels at the edge of the screen indicate that the displayed image could be a photomontage. However, this could also be due to the perspective from which the photo was taken.

On the other hand, the PS5 developer kit could indicate the authenticity of the image, on which the game in the photo appears to be running. These special consoles are not intended for end users, but are only issued by manufacturer Sony to developers. A comparison of the surroundings in front of the window in the background also leads some users to believe that the location in the picture is really the Rockstar office in San Diego.

What is certain is that the image that has now emerged is an older development version that does not reflect the current state of GTA 6. ;The original uploader of the image, a user named JustLovett0, wrote on Reddit that this is a photo from 2021. The PS5 devkit used, which dates from 2019 to 2020, would also suggest this.

When will it finally be ready?

It is completely unclear whether the game will really be released as planned by the end of 2025. Although the publisher Take-Two repeatedly emphasized in its annual reports that it was still planning a major release at the end of this year, but industry insiders like Jason Schreier have repeatedly reported missed deadlines and delays in development in recent weeks.

So a postponement to 2026 is quite likely. However, this has not yet been made official, and so many other publishers are currently avoiding the 2025 Christmas business with their upcoming releases in order to avoid being left at the shop counters when GTA 6 is released. But it’s about time for a new official trailer, in our opinion.

What do you think of the alleged screenshot? Is it real or fake? Let us know in the comments!
