What we know about the release and content.
Not surprisingly, Rockstar Games has finally announced the Summer Update 2022 for GTA Online – even if it is not explicitly called that at the moment. But when does it start? And what kind of content can fans look forward to after The Contract and Los Santos Tuners? We summarise what we currently know about the release and the new content such as cars, weapons, story missions or quality-of-life improvements.

Release: When will the 2022 summer update be released?
Unfortunately, Rockstar (in the current blog post) has not yet communicated a concrete release date for the Summer Update 2022. There is only talk that the add-on will be released in the coming weeks. Nevertheless, we might already know the exact date.
The established Rockstar insider (Tez2) speculated that it will probably be on 19 July 2022 that time. One indication of this is that GTA Online”s current bonuses and discounts are valid up to and including 18 July. So it would make perfect sense for the 2022 Summer Update to hit the following day

Story: What”s the 2022 Summer Update about?
What”s it about: Information about the story of the Summer Update 2022 for GTA Online is still a bit limited. Rockstar only lets us know that we will probably get to the bottom of a criminal conspiracy and even become an IAA agent ourselves! The IAA is the fictional GTA equivalent of the American secret service CIA.
With Agent 14, fans of GTA 5 and GTA Online naturally know an IAA employee who plays a prominent role in both the single and multiplayer of the game.
By the way, there were rumours and speculations before that a new update for GTA Online after Franklin would revolve around another playable character of GTA 5”s single player campaign: Michael. However, at least for the time being, this does not seem to be true. There is still no trace of a possible storyline around Michael”s film career.
Content: What”s in the 2022 Summer Update?
What”s definitely coming: Rockstar is still a bit vague about the content of the Summer Update 2022 for GTA Online. What we can expect in light of the official blog post and previous updates, we have summarised for you in the following list:
- new story and contact missions
- new jobs for bikers, executives, gun runners and nightclub owners
- new cars
- new quality-of-life improvements
The promised Quality-of-Life improvements look set to be quite a board. Rockstar has in fact promised a few new features and tweaks that fans have been waiting for for years:
- Snacks for quick healing on the go can be
selected more conveniently
which hopefully means you no longer have to click through various submenus. - Sales missions for CEOs or presidents can finally be done in invite-only sessions and no longer only in public lobbies.
- the Oppressor Mk2”s missiles and countermeasures are being generated, making the flying rocket motorbike (hopefully) less attractive to pesky Grievers.
- the in-game economy is to be adjusted, certain missions like races, enemy modes or selected Heist finales will pay out more money, as well as salaries for bodyguards, staff and MC members.
What is still open: Some questions regarding the contents of the summer update cannot be answered at the moment.
- Will there be a new property?
- Will there be new social hubs like the LS Car Meet?
- Will there be new weapons?
- Will there be new collectibles?
More detailed information will most likely be answered by Rockstar in the coming weeks. With the previous updates for GTA Online, there were usually also more in-depth blogposts that prepared us for the new content for the multiplayer mode of GTA 5.
Price: How much does the Summer Update 2022 cost?
No paid update: Almost certainly, the 2022 Summer Update for GTA Online will not cost any additional money. All expansions for the multiplayer mode of GTA 5 have so far required no real money payment, and this will most likely not change. After all, GTA Online plays money into Rockstar”s coffers via microtransactions and the subscription model GTA+.
Of course, you”ll have to be able to afford a lot of the new content with your in-game assets, which you can easily earn. The best way to do this is still the Cayo Perico Heist.
