Story: What”s the 2022 Summer Update about?
The pivotal point of the Summer Update 2022 are the new contact missions For the Operation Paper Trail
missions, the Duggans and Agent ULP return – no strangers to regular players of GTA Online.
In the course of the new missions we get on the trail of a criminal conspiracy and even become an IAA agent ourselves! The IAA is the fictional GTA equivalent of the American secret service CIA. With Agent 14, fans of GTA 5 and GTA Online naturally know an IAA employee who plays a prominent role in both the single and multiplayer of the game
By the way, there were rumours and speculations before that a new update for GTA Online after Franklin would revolve around another playable character of GTA 5”s single player campaign: Michael. However, this does not seem to be true. There is no trace of a possible storyline around Michael”s film career.
Supplement for single player fans: The new missions can be played solo as well as in co-op with up to four players.
Content: What”s in the 2022 Summer Update?
In the meantime, a clear picture has emerged of what GTA Online players can expect with the Summer Update 2022. We have summarised the most important information for you in the following list:
- New Contact Missions:
Operation Paper Trail
(German: Operation: Belastende Unterlagen) is a mission series with an agent setting. Here, one to four players are sworn in as agents of the IAA and are supposed to find out what the oil magnates of the Duggan family have to do with the skyrocketing petrol prices. - For bikers: Motorcycle club owners get two new missions, a workshop with a similar function to the car shop and opportunities for passive income. In addition, players can modify motorbikes for AI customers in their workshop and deliver them to them in exchange for money and experience points. One mission revolves around always supplying guests in the clubhouse with enough drinks.
- For Weapon Smugglers: Here you”ll find daily missions in the form of a delivery to AmmuNation weapon shops and two new supply missions.
- For Managers: Players with their own company get daily missions in the form of a special cargo delivery, two new replenishment missions as well as additional employees such as the manager Lupe, who provides more special cargo for delivery.
- For Nightclub Owners: Here, two new supply missions await and Yohan can be contacted to find new merchandise. You can also kick troublemakers out of the club and rescue unconscious VIPs to save the good vibes in the club.
- New cars: Of course, new bodies are also coming with the summer update and after, but they haven”t been highlighted yet. With the exception of this image, which is of a new Obey, apparently modelled on the real Audi TT:
- More Tuning: The Criminal Enterprises brings additional customisation options for old and new cars.
- More Hardcore Tuning: Imani, Benny and Hao can add their special modifications to new and more cars.
- New collectible items
- Changes to the game economy: Among other things, there are permanent boosts to races and enemy modes, more pay for the old heists and the Doomsday Heist, and more pay for staff, fellow bikers and co.

Quality of Life: Urgently needed improvements
The summer update also includes some comfort improvements that many fans had been asking for for years. Specifically mentioned, for example, was a more user-friendly healing with items and a nerf for the combat abilities of the infamous flying Oppressor motorbike.
This is new from the summer update:
- Snacks for quick healing on the go can be
selected more conveniently
which hopefully means you no longer have to click through various submenus. - Sales missions for CEOs or presidents can finally be played in invite-only sessions and no longer only in public lobbies.
- the Oppressor Mk2”s missiles and countermeasures are being generated, making the flying rocket motorbike (hopefully) less attractive to pesky Griefers.
- the in-game economy is to be adjusted, certain missions like races, enemy modes or selected Heist finales will pay out more money, as well as salaries for bodyguards, staff and MC members.
Price: How much does the 2022 summer update cost?
No paid update: According to current information, the Summer Update 2022 for GTA Online will not cost any additional money. All expansions for the multiplayer mode of GTA 5 have so far required no real money payment, and this will most likely not change. After all, GTA Online plays money into Rockstar”s coffers via microtransactions and the subscription model GTA+.
