Will the PC version of GTA Online also get an upgrade soon? Maybe. A new age rating for Grand Theft Auto 5’s multiplayer gives hope.

New cars, new menus, better technology: In March 2022, GTA 5 and GTA Online were relaunched for NextGen consoles. However, so far there is no trace of the dewy content and features on the PC. But there may be hope. A new age rating for the Rockstar game could also promise an upgrade for the home computer.

We provide you with all the information. By the way, you can read how well GTA 5 and Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S do in direct comparison with the PC in our big technology check:

GTA 5 next-gen update: The PS5 version leaves the PC clearly behind in only one category

NextGen upgrade also for PC?

ESRB rating gives hope: That the PC version of GTA 5 and GTA Online will get the same new content and features as on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S is not confirmed at this time. However, some industry and Rockstar insiders pointed out that the game has once again been rated by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board).

What does that mean? What is interesting here is that not only the versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but also the one for PC have been reclassified. This leads to the conclusion that GTA 5 and GTA Online could also be reworked on the home computer and not just the NextGen consoles – or at least the new cars and menus could end up on the PC as well.

What else could be coming? It’s also possible that the PC version will get features like DLSS, improved ray tracing or polished textures. However, this is mere speculation and fans should always wait for an official confirmation. We have already asked Rockstar, but the studio does not want to comment on this.

Don’t rejoice too soon: Even if the renewed ESRB rating suggests it, the NextGen content of GTA 5 and Online doesn’t automatically have to land on the PC. Just as well, minor adjustments to the game could speak for Rockstar’s resubmission.

What are PC gamers currently missing?

On PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, gamers are currently enjoying new features and content that fans of other platforms are missing out on.

What fans say: The new and currently NextGen-exclusive subscription model GTA+ has caused a small controversy. Some members of the community even called for a boycott of GTA Online.

What does the future hold for GTA Online?

What the future holds for GTA Online in 2022 is unknown at this time. So far, Rockstar Games has not revealed whether players can look forward to new expansions and content this year. But if we look at the last releases, it could be summer 2022 at the latest. Wait and see.
