According to established Rockstar insider Tez2, Rockstar Games is throwing more resources at saving GTA: Definitive Edition. This could have consequences.

The GTA Trilogy fell far short of the expectations of players and critics alike. Half-hearted innovations as well as numerous bugs and performance problems led to mixed reviews from the press and scathing criticism from fans. Rockstar has already promised consequences and taken first measures.

New patches are to fix the debacle, while the original versions of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas will return – at least for the PC in the Rockstar Games Launcher. Now, Rockstar’s increased efforts on GTA: Definitive Edition could even affect upcoming updates for GTA Online and Red Dead Online – as reported by established insider Tez2.

Are new updates coming later because of GTA Trilogy?

What does the insider claim? Tez2 claims to have learned from its sources that Rockstar Games is currently pooling resources to get GTA Trilogy on track with new patches and fixes. This is likely to give developer Grove Street Games a helping hand from Rockstar’s other studios. So far, update 1.02 has only been released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.

What consequences could this have? Tez2 suspects that the internal reprioritisation of resources could have consequences for other Rockstar content – specifically, updates for GTA Online and Red Dead Online. It is not necessarily certain that this will happen. However, this possibility cannot be completely ruled out.

Why you can expect new content at Christmas

What do we know about new updates for GTA and Red Dead Online? That there will be updates for the multiplayer modes of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2021 or in the foreseeable future is not officially confirmed at the moment. But it would be quite obvious, considering the usual release rhythms of Rockstar Games.

For GTA Online, for example, big updates always appear in December – such as The Doomsday Heist on 12 December 2017, The Diamond Casino Heist on 12 December 2019 or most recently The Cayo Perico Heist on 15 December 2020. Last year’s update in particular turned out to be a real highlight for single-player fans.

It is therefore quite possible that Rockstar Games is also planning a big Christmas update for 2021, at least for GTA Online. However, should there not be one under the tree this year, Tez2 would at least have warned us in advance. Fans should wait for official information on this.

Why a delay should not be too serious: With a bit of luck, a delay of new content for GTA Online doesn’t have to be too big either. Maybe it will only come a week or two later. After all, Rockstar Games would otherwise miss out on Christmas business and the holidays. Not a loss a game developer would accept lightly.
