According to rumours, a remake of the three GTA games 3, Vice City and San Andreas is coming. The only question is when it will be released: 2022 or this year?

If the numerous rumours and speculations prove to be true, then GTA fans could be in for a return to Vice City and Co. in the foreseeable future.
If the numerous rumours and speculations prove to be true, then GTA fans could be in for a return to Vice City and Co. in the foreseeable future.

Areportedly, GTA: 3, Vice City and San Andreas will return in old and new graphics as part of a Remaster Trilogy. The emphasis is on “allegedly” – the remake has not yet been officially confirmed.

And after rumours made the rounds that the GTA Remaster Trilogy would already be released in October or November 2021, an established insider contradicted this for the time being. According to Tom Henderson, who already made a name for himself with his insights into Call of Duty and Battlefield, GTA fans might have to wait a little longer.

Update as of 1 October 2021: In the meantime, however, there is once again new information regarding the launch of the GTA Remaster Trilogy, which could be entitled Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition according to the Korean age rating committee. We have revised and updated this article accordingly.

When is GTA Remaster Trilogy supposed to come?

These are the rumours about the release of the GTA Remaster Trilogy

These are the rumours: Tom Henderson stated on Twitter that his info is mostly in line with previous rumours about the GTA Remaster Trilogy. So that the remakes will come with revamped graphics and UI thanks to Unreal Engine, they will be gameplay-wise similar to the originals and will be released for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.

This was controversial
: In August, Tom Henderson stated that the GTA Remaster Trilogy would not be released in 2021, but at the earliest in 2022 at an unspecified date. With this, Tom Henderson at least at that time still contradicted the alleged info from Kotaku regarding the release date.

New report from Kotaku, Henderson rows back: In late September/early October, Kotaku published a new report on the alleged GTA Remaster Trilogy. In it, author Zack Zwiezen refers to unspecified sources and lets slip: The remaster of the GTA classics will indeed come later – but not as late as Tom Henderson possibly made us fear.

Supposedly later release, but still 2021: According to Kotaku, the release of the GTA Remaster Trilogy will be delayed from October/November 2021 to November 2021. Henderson reacted to this news on Twitter and makes a new assumption. According to him, the original plan was for the Remaster Trilogy to arrive in 2022. With the postponement of the NextGen version of GTA 5, however, the release dates could simply have been exchanged.

What does this mean now?

Henderson is considered trustworthy: Tom Henderson is one of the most reliable insiders in the gaming industry, at least currently. Normally, he mainly provides insights into new Battlefield or Call of Duty games. Most recently, however, he also gained a foothold on the Rockstar topic by sharing alleged information on GTA 6 – which, however, could not be confirmed until today.

Kotaku but of course also: Kotaku, on the other hand, also usually refers to reliable sources or almost never reports about something that later turns out to be false. Accordingly, it is of course difficult to determine who could ultimately be right about the release date of the GTA Remaster Trilogy.

Just a misunderstanding? It cannot be ruled out that a potential re-release of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas in October or November 2021 is originally outdated information. Or there was a misunderstanding between Henderson and Kotaku: after all, the latter talks about the GTA Remaster Trilogy coming out in 2021 for consoles and only in 2022 for PC and mobile.

At least the reveal is very likely in October: That the remake of the well-known GTA titles will at least be announced in October, however, should be as good as certain: On this date Grand Theft Auto 3 celebrates its 20th anniversary and Rockstar already held out the prospect that there should be something to celebrate. Whether the release of the alleged Remaster Trilogy will take place at the same time or soon remains questionable.

Old info replaces new info? With the latest development, however, it seems obvious that simply newer and newer information has hit Kotaku and Tom Henderson respectively: The originally targeted release in October/November 2021 might actually have been outdated, which is why Henderson spoke of a 2022 release. Then the postponement of the NextGen version of GTA 5 might actually have caused an exchange of release dates.

Either way: we should continue to be patient for official info.

The anniversary of GTA 3 is to be officially celebrated in GTA Online. Many rumours indicate that it won't stop there.

New leak hints at completely different name

Update from September 30, 2021: Once again the hints for a GTA Trilogy Remaster are growing. An entry at the Korean rating board responsible for age ratings has now led to renewed speculation. The Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition can be found there. This means that the collection could have a completely different (and somewhat excessive) title than originally thought.

Of course, this is still not a hundred percent confirmation that the GTA Trilogy Remaster really exists. In the past, there have been various game leaks that were found on comparable platforms but ultimately never appeared.

What else happens in GTA?

Last Rockstar released the Los Santos Tuners update, which gave GTA Online new cars and a garage as a property, among other things. In March 2022, after a postponement, the standalone version of GTA Online will then follow in parallel with the NextGen update of GTA 5 for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.

GTA 5: New trailer for the NextGen version causes a lot of criticism
