After the Definitive Edition of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas, is a GTA 4 Remastered coming? At least that’s what an insider and Take-Two’s actions suggest.
The GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition recently saw the return of the three classics GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas. Is GTA 4 next? It’s quite possible that we’ll be seeing a GTA 4 Remastered in the foreseeable future. We provide you with all the information and clues.
By the way, you can read our current first impression of the GTA Trilogy in our preliminary conclusion. Small spoiler: Rockstar definitely needs to work on this again to eliminate one or two points of criticism from the fans.
Which points to a GTA 4 Remastered
Insider promises remaster for 2023: As recently as early November, industry insider RalphsValve brought up a potential remaster for GTA 4. The tweet and even the account have since been deleted, but according to him, a remastered version could be coming in 2023 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and Xbox One – there is no mention of the Nintendo Switch. Multiplayer and the Episode from Liberty City DLCs are said to be unsupported.

The rumour cannot be verified at this stage, of course. RalphsValve is no stranger to the gaming scene, however, and has already supported the leaks of CoD expert Tom Henderson, for example. Of course, you should take his statements regarding an alleged GTA 4 remaster with a grain of salt.
Take-Two takes aim at mods: Now, in addition to the insider rumours, the modding site LibertyCity draws attention to an interesting development. It seems that Rockstar publisher Take-Two is targeting mods for Grand Theft Auto 4 and is having them removed from the net.
We remember: Already in the run-up to the GTA Trilogy, numerous popular mods for GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas were punished and warned by Take-Two. So with this development, a GTA 4 Remastered doesn’t seem so unlikely anymore.
Take-Two wants more remakes: Last but not least, fans should of course keep in mind that Rockstar publisher Take-Two had already spoken out in favour of the return of old familiar games – for example, there was already talk of a remaster for Red Dead Redemption.
Of course, it remains exciting whether the GTA Definitive Edition will change anything in these plans. After all, in its current state, it is being punished by its players on Metacritic and the like, especially for technical problems and questionable design decisions.
What do you think about the speculation about a remaster of GTA 4? Would you be happy to return to Liberty City as Niko Bellic? Or is your anticipation after the Definitive Edition limited for the time being?
